I have been offered a lockable garage for £450 for a whole year. This to me is a bargain to keep my pride and joy away from the elements.

The only thing I am not sure is if it will fit in.
The garage door width is 2.14M and it opens out to 2.55M past the door. The length is 4.9M. Will a Chimaera fit in here and will I be able to open the doors easily?

The only other issue is that it does not have any power so I can't use a trickle charger. How long would I have to leave the Chimaera for to drain the battery enough so it won't start? I have a new alarm fitted by Karl the man.

If you can get it in you don't need to open the doors. (I often clamber out with doors shut, roof off in the g/f garage).

If locked 3-4 weeks will probably drain the battery?

They are 4015 long and 1865 wide inc mirrors so could be a tight fit but looks ok. Get some sponge for the wall where the door opens I've cleared room in my garage to make room for my new arrival. luckily I've got a double garage but it was full if st. smile

Garlick (the bloke who runs this place if you can find him hehe ) has posted about a solar charger he is using at his lockup which also has no power. Might be worth investigating and seeing what Google has to say about these things.

Cheers, that might be a good idea if I can find one powerful enough. The only worry would be if I leave it on top of the garage it can be stolen easily!

Another thought I had is if the power in the battery runs out won't that trigger the alarm which is battery backed up?

On mine when I switch on the battery switch it sets the alarm up [ I mean that it is at the ready not actually sounding the alarm] so any thieving bast**ds still have to overcome this.

The car will be gone so they wont know! I think that your car will be tricky to start and therefore steal if there is a break in the live feed....

My car had a battery drain and it turned out to have both an alarm problem and a duff new battery. The alarm was cured by cleaning the relay contacts but battery fault was very annoying as you dont believe it can be that!

My garage is not near my house so I have bought a generator, which runs for 10 hours, sufficient to trickle charge battery, I lock garage doors and let the generator run. Only problem is I have had police knocking my door to make sure im not inside garage trying to do myself in.

I regularly leave mine for weeks at a time with no charger. The car's in a garage with no power, however I don't lock it (arm the alarm) so the battery doesn't drain very quickly. Longest I have left it without starting is six weeks, which was all of June and into July this year... She started first turn of the key smile
