where's my tow hook thingy?

Now this may sound like a stupid question, but I can't find any towing eye or hook on the back of my focus or 5 series estate...I've arranged to tow my griff to storage in the morning and got a couple of mates to help and one said he didn't have a tow bar...I said no worries well just use my Focus and use the towing eye...went to check it had one this morning and can't see one on that or my 5 series estate.....

Do modern cars not come with rear towing eyes any more?
If not what do I do?

I would assume its in the toolkit, and the anchor point (ie the threaded hole) is hidden behind a plastic cover somewhere on the rear bumper.

Yep...both owner's manuals...didn't think to read them before I left for work this mornig though so just had a quick look. Pretty sure I've got a tow hooky thing for the 5 series (must admit I thought that was front only...doh!)

Not sure about the Focus..guess I have - had all the stuff with it when I got it.

Careful with the bloody things though. I used one on my old car, towed a mates car off a dual carriageway and then could remove it, even though i'd only tightened it up by hand.

Got home, put a decent bar through it to get it off and the bloody thing snapped the "eye" off.

Ended up at a garage to weld a nut on the end so as to remove the now sharp, MOT fail, piece of metal sticking out the car.

All good. didn't use my car in the end - used my mate's but did find my tow hook etc.

Griffith now safely in storage whist I move house...

Just an FWI, the thread on the ford eyelets is cock eyed (ie left hand)

it can be an issue if you're exhausted
