No time to go out and buy extra ingredients tonight so what simple easy thing can I do with 2 x pork loin steaks using basic larder ingredients?

Rarebit mix (grated cheese, beer, mustard powder, lea'n'perrins, egg)

Grill on top of cooked loin steak until brown.

If you wanted to add another little twist, when its grilled and cheesy, thinly slice an apple and grill again on top of the rarebit mix with a little sugar to caramelise.

Hmm, that sounds awesome although I might be being dense in saying - won't that just fall off the steak and make a mess of the grill? Or do I use an ingredient to make it firm?

How long to cook?

The egg sets it. There may be some slippage, but it should be quite a firm paste before you top the pork, fridge it beforehand if necessary.

ETA, its just a topping so when it goes brown, max grill setting and keep an eye on it, it will souffle up a bit as well, as will the apples if you decide on them.

Cover with pesto, fry in a very hot dry pan for around 5 mins a side.

Spicy rub with 1tsp each of crushed cumin seeds, crushed coriander seeds, sweet paprika, chilli powder.
Add some whole grain mustard, salt and pepper and a glug of oil, and rub onto the meat.

Some nice recipe ideas here, but some of them are somewhat expanding my personal definition of "basic larder ingrediants". I wouldn't have the likes of pesto, cumin seeds, coriander seeds and sweet paprika in stock by default. You live and learn!
