I always think the public (myself included!) are quick to put a company down when they receive poor service, but slow to praise, so.......

Ordered some coilovers for the E46 M3 from Driftworks late yesterday and had the email this morning to confirm they've been sent out (good and prompt considering the time I ordered last night)

But on top of this, I had cause to ask a few Q's at separate times today and use their "live help" system - chap/s at the other end were very prompt in providing good information as required, so I'd heartily recommend them on my experience so far

Point to note - HSD have now started doing a £500 set of coils for the E46 M3 (and many others) with multi adjustment - will report back once fitted on the quality - but as mine has covered 150k+ on the original BMW uspension, I'm expecting a big improvement.

Coil's arrived about 30 minutes ago, via DPD

That's another thing - DPD stated "delivery between 1457 and 1557" (none of the BS you get from CityLink - 0800 to 1730 and then claim you weren't in and carded you when there's no card to be seen and you were there all day!!)

DPD actually arrived at 1457!

Just took the Coil's out the box and they look very well made, even at this starter level.

Totally off topic but I saw your M3 at a services on the M4 once (London end).

Be interested to hear how the suspension works out once fitted, and see some before/after photos. Are you going for a drop at all?

Really?

Cool

Still unsure about a drop, I'll be taking advice on this from my mechanic

I'm keen to keep it looking pretty standard, otherwise it would go against the whole ethos of M cars (to my way of thinking, at least)

Once I've got the mechanics sorted she's due a respray to the front end - 100k+ of the M4 has added a fair few stone chips.

I'd like to get the grey interior dyed to black but don't know if this is a realistic idea

Yep it was pretty easy to spot - it had AngryApples written on the rear bumper!

What have you been quoted for a respray? Mine would be more or less perfect save for the chips that pepper the front bumper, bonnet and wheel arches.

Good grief - that must have been just after I first got the car - didn't keep that on long!

For the work you're talking about, JB Autos in Longwell, Bristol (who seem to be quite well respected?) reckoned on around £500

Chap that lives by me just had his E60 M5 sprayed for the same work at a Bodyshop in WSM for £500 so would seem that's about right for front end and wing blending

AA - OT, but have you had any experience with 'Autobase' or can you recommend any trustworthy, local Indies?
Hi,

for the past 100k+ mileage and 3 years of services (a lot, as I've had more services than I strictly needed) I've used Forza West, over the bridge in Chepstow.

If you search PH and other forums you'll find plenty that sing his praises as he's honest, reliable and quite cheap (cant ask for much more, really).

Slight trek for me being based in WSM, but I think it's worth it (plus he's planning on opening a new one soon near Cribbs Causeway).

He and his team have done loads of work for me, including a head gasket and I've always been impressed - extremely knowledgeable (and likeable) chap.

As luck would have it I am based in Britol - many glowing reports around the forums for JB Autos and it's only just down the road from me. I'll definitely give them a call once I've built up a way chest to spend on the car. Thanks for your help.

If you're in Bristol I used Clayton's BMW for work on my 328 and always found them to be good - always kept informed and seemed to charge reasonable prices. I'm going to have to use Dick Lovett for my e46 as it's under warranty but would otherwise definitely take it to Forza West in Chepstow - I've seen so many good things about them.

Surely all the Euro law stuff has negated the need to take it to the dealer re Warranty?

Don't know anything about that actually, but various other posts I've read recently seem to suggest your warranty will only be supported with main dealer service history.

Hmm,

picking mine up later from Forza, having had the coilovers, new wishbones, new rear pads and new pusher fan fitted (hopefully the car will feel really good after that lot!).

I'll have a word with Stu about this (he's a BMW Master Tech - I believe one of a few outside of the dealer network that are current?) - I would imagine he could do warranty work paid for by BMW's warranty

And trust me when I say, I'd much rather have him do the work than a lot of main dealers I know!

You're right, see below from the warranty thread running at the moment. I will definitely use FW once I've double checked for myself. My e46 doesn't need a service for 14k miles but it would be really handy to know if they're good for warranty work, too.

From the warranty thread:
I have queried the T&Cs and had it confirmed in am email copy below

Dear Mr Farmer,

Thank you for your telephone call.

I can confirm that further to our telephone conversation that servicing can now be done outside of BMW as long as this is at a VAT registered garage using genuine BMW parts and the correct grade of oils.

Kind Regards
