europe holiday November
Discussion
Wondering if people could help me and the o/h out. We've both finally managed to get time off together around about the start November.
She wants to go some where warm Ideally with a beach.
Night clubs etc not an issue, im not that kinda guy. Just some where hot, cheap and cheerful.
We have been looking at Malta

to be honest it looks lovely and cheap. Whats Malta like. kinda reminds me of prague lots of things to see, nice old buildings lots of wee street cafes.
We have also been looking at Tunisa but not sure as its so big it could be hit or a miss.
Naturally places like SPain and Portugal are still an option but Id rather go some place thats not full of pissed up teens. Ive done they holidays not so long ago and could imagine them being hell for couples staying near.
So ideally a place thats hot, cheap and with lots to do and see even if its only just walking around stopping for a bevie.
Failing that someone convince her I should have a track bike instead.

oh I should point out we've been together 2 years and this is our first holiday away together.
She doesnt count 3 nights in a travel lodge at a warrington service station to watch falkirk play pre-season friendlies as a holiday for some reason.
Nor the pre-season holidays we spent in Aberdeen.
Sometimes I wonder why im with her

If she can live with a pool instead of a beach, Marrakech would be nice
Whats the food like in Morocco? I liked the idea of Malta as the food seems quite boring....
plenty of pizza places and chicken bars.
Im very suspect of "foreign" food. To be honest I havent a clue about travel as well. Ive learnt most of what I know about foreign countries from the simpsons.
never been to Malta, but i would like to (however for a 'lively' holiday)
you will want to avoid St Julians and paceville area, thats the area with the good nightlife.
from wht i gather theres not a great deal to do apart from sight seeing etc, its very small island so probably wont matter where you stay.
may want to consider some small islands just off Malta, Goza? i think was one of them and in my research on Malta read it was a must see/visit on a relaxing holiday

Playa Blanca in Lanzarote as mentioned or Corralejo in Furteventura.
Almost certainly both will be warm and sunny with temperatures in the 20s. Good selection of mostly European restaurants, choice of pleasant to absolutely epic beaches, superb inland scenery, cheap car hire and most of the locals speak some English.
Lots of 4 star hotels in Playa Blanca to choose from - Rubicon Palace is probrably the best although it's some way out of the resort centre. Much more self catering options in Corralejo. Las Marismas is pleasant, spotlessly clean and cheap.
Don't expect a top class 5 star holiday experience in the Canaries tho - it's pretty much beer and chips in the sunshine for Chavs in all the resorts which are filled with crappy souviner shops and Irish sports bars. Hire a car and get out and you'll see a different side of the islands altogether.

This - if you want real warmth then avoid the Med as you'll be lucky to find it there.Almost certainly both will be warm and sunny with temperatures in the 20s. Malta's lovely...
). My parents are in their 60s and love St Julians (I stayed there with the missus at a similar point in our relationship) although they normally stay over in Golden Sands!
Having said all that, if you're looking to enjoy the beach in November I'd also be looking further afield personally!

TBH 'out of season' I WOULD go somewhere like St Julians, as you'd need probably somewhere slighty more lively - Paceville's the real 'clubbing' district, but even that isn't full of 'pissed up teens' as the Maltese are pretty conservative, and even though it's just a 5 minute walk away, one can stay in St Julians without even setting foot in Paceville (although the OP may want to as there's lots of 'non foreign' food served you will want to avoid St Julians and paceville area, thats the area with the good nightlife.

Malta is a very international place. You can meet people from almost every country (not just European). You can also get a huge variety of cuisines, in fact everything and there are some top restaurants. There are many in St Julians. The weathar in November can be variable (as in most of the Med at that time of year) although the sea will still be warm to swim in (above 20C). The sea is currently 28C. It's a very interesting place because it's a country, not an island off a mainland. Loads of history and sights to see. Depends if you want a boring Greek island type place with nothing but a few beaches or somewhere where you'll find things to see every day.plenty of pizza places and chicken bars.

Playa blanca, not teguise. Apart from it being a little more upmarket, playa blanca has the best microclimate on th island and is often hotter or bathed in sun when everywhere else is overcast.
Given that lanzarote has the hottest and driest weather out of all the islands (low lying land compared to the other islands and its close proximity to africa) it makes PB one of the very best spots in the Canaries.

Playa Blanca is the only relatively Chav free resort on Lanzarote. I'd avoid Costa Teguise and Puerto del Carmen completely - both attract the sort of people you really don't want throwing up on your balcony at 3.30am before starting a fight and chucking all the poolside furniture into the pool. This is also the same reason you never, ever go all inclusive in the Canaries no matter how cheap - that's just what the scumbags do.
Apart from that Costa Teguise is also very exposed to the NE trade wind and south of the Papagayo mountains - meaning Playa Blanca - is much more sheltered. Lots of nice 4 star hotels to choose from in PB too.
Corralejo in Furteventura has the same climate advantage. Plenty of self catering options - some good, some now a bit old and decrepid. There's several really good restaurants in Coreallejo high street and a superb new supermarket just on the edge of the resort.
