Driving to Germany next month
Discussion
Next month me, my brother and a mate are driving to Germany for a bit of a holiday, car wise we have the choice of my S60 D5, an E39 530d or an E46 320d. Not the most exciting choice but all are capable mile munchers that could manage 600+ miles to a tank. I imagine we'll take the 530d but possibly just take the car that has been serviced most recently!
We'll be camping and our loose plan is to take in the Nurburgring for a day, Karlsruhe (my bro wants to go to go, not sure what the motive is behind this). I'd quite like to go to the Porsche museum in Stuttgart and I noticed the Mercedes musuem is also in Stuttgart.
My brother and I also fancy the idea of going to see a Bundesliga game but I'm not too sure if we'll manage this looking at the fixtures.
So I'd like to know if anyone has been to the Porka/Merc musuems and if they are worth a visit? Any other interesting things to see and do, cities or towns to take in while we're there?
I'm a Germany virgin so I'm open to suggestions, they seem keen to visit Bavaria as they went last year, so that area is another possibilty. We'd quite like to go to Berlin and I have a friend that lives there but I think its probably a bit out of the way.
Cheers

I went to the Mercedes Museum in Stuttgart 7th October 2 years ago and thoroughly enjoyed the half-day spent there. You might be able to get booked onto a factory tour as well.
The beer festival was on at the same time, and that was a great night out that makes our beer festivals here look a bit second-rate. Check the dates because I don't know when it begins. It is second only to the Munich BeerFest.

You should try and get yourself along to a Wiesen, better known as Oktoberfest. Every town/village/city has one with th bigger ones running from the second week of September to the second week of OCtober. Karlsruher is OK but Heidelberg is much nice and not too far away.
The Merc museum is very good and you can easily loose a day there. As has been mentioned the Schwarzwald should be on your list. If you need any route suggestions then just ask as I'm fequently down that way. Berlin is also a good shout but it is a LONG way from where have said you waned to go. It depends how long you have but Munich is lovely (better when the Oktoberfest is finished), Würzburg and Nürnberg are both steeped in history and Bamberg is stunning (try the Schlenkerla). Even Frankfurt has great nightlife and a thriving Apfelweinkneiper culture (the Hessiche version of the English pub).
