Do you live in a council flat but have a flash car??

My work involves going into council/housing association flats and houses to repair boilers. So often I come across grotty places which have BMW's, Mercs, Range Rovers, Ducati's and the like parked outside.
The tenants are more often than not lazy mofo's still in bed at 2pm, the homes are dirty and I often wonder how the f
k they can afford/maintain these cars! I'm out my door at 6am, don't get home till after 7pm and I still can't afford them.
I do wonder if they are drug dealers etc but alot of these guys are real wasters and I would assume that to be a successful drug dealer and get all the material things that go with said 'occupation' you would need to have a brain together with a bit of drive and ambition. they can't all be drug dealers?!?
I can only think that they have a reasonable disposable income because their rent is very low and the benefits system allows them to massage their claims to get a level of benefits which allow them to indulge in a bit of PH'ing.
Then again, if you had the level of 'income' which allowed you to spend big money on these flash cars the surely they would spend it trying to get out of a grotty council flat and into a place they coiuld call their own. I suppose it will come down peoples perception of priorities.
The only time I managed to get into a conversation with a tenant about this was when I got chatting to a young mum in a 2 bed council flat with a 61 reg Mini Countryman, I assume £20-22k's worth of motor. As it turned out she worked as a lapdancer during the night and was saving all her earnings to get out of the flat and a better life for her and her little boy. The car came from an 'appreciative' client, she planned to use it for a year and sell it to add to her savings.

This has got to be one of the most pointless threads on PH ever. Firstly, not everyone who lives on a what may be a council estate lives in a council house. They may have bought their house in said area (shock horror)
If some student lives at home and is poor but still get an E46 M3 or whatever he's commended on here for being a true petrolhead blah blah blah but if someone in a not so nice area has a nicer car they're slated for spending the cash on it. Would you rather they spunked it on drugs or whatever?
Do you understand that a car is significantly cheaper than a house or flat, so is it really surprising that people who may not be able to afford a flash house in areas where property is very expensive, but can afford a relatively nice vehicle. Not everyone who has a decent car is a drug dealer, wherever they may live. Also there is such a thing as finance.
I don't get why you're so interested in why some people spend money on cars than getting out of their "grotty council flats" - why do you spend X on Y of spending it on Z?

I appreciate that alot of council estates have privately owned properties but they're not the ones I am talking about. I go into council houses and its blatently obvious that the car outside belongs to the tenant and the said tenant is not a private owner of the property, because if it was privately owned I wouldn't be in his property fixing his boiler for free...
I know some council tenants have nice cars, not all are drug dealers and some even have ambition to improve their situation if they want to. But some of these cars are top end motors like M5's, C63 AMG's, new reg Range Rovers, even a few Maseratis.
Obviously the price of houses in London is ridiculous and I understand that alot of people are mild, moderate or extreme PHers and spend on cars accordingly but the place I go into are very often grubby pooholes which haven't seen a mop or dustpan and brush for years. Why have a lovely, flash, gleaming car parked on your drive when you live in filth? Fair enough you can't afford your own place but why these people can't spend their money to keep their home in a reasonable condition and state of cleanliness is a bit odd to me.
Maybe downgrading the car to something which is still nice but a bit more reasonable and spending the remaining money on decorating/cleaning etc would be a good start.
And personally, I don't really care how these people spend their money, their living habits keep me in work on a regular basis. Its just a thought on why these people prioritise the way they do that intrigues me.
