I hope you are all out enjoying your Griff's today - I have just had a wonderful 2 hour cruise, roof off, sun shining, engine burbling along at 2.5K RPM. Just wonderful, it's days like this you can imagine cruising around France/Italy (I have to imagine for now until my children are older).

If we weren't going out this afternoon doing "family" things I would be back out heading to the coast.

DO NOT go cruising around in Italy, not ever. I am in Italy now in my Tusc for the F1 as part of my European road trip and the roads are chaos. I would be happy to never venture to Italy ever again, not driving anyway. The nationals are lunatics (although they seam to be paying ALOT of attention to and giving nice comments about my car). The only good feature around these parts are the tunnels, which are very, very nice for blasting through!

If you were ever going to drive in Europe, head for Austria. Their roads are sublime and the whole country is simply stunning! I fell in love with it a few days ago!

Interesting re Italy by Tuscan , you lucky devil ! I think I have been spoilt by images of Danger Diabolick in his black 3.8 E Type And the Beautifull Marissa Mell in her White 3.8 !!

I drove my first Griff and ex G / F to The Black Forest in Aug 07 and the roads there were just fantastic ...... Highly recommended !

I love the roads and driving style in Italy, it is very scary at first but once you get use to how the Italians drive you just drive like them and it suddenly becomes rather fun! I can imagine for your first drive in Italy your new Tuscan is not the ideal car, but it can be very good fun.
Although do not drive in Rome that place is a nightmare, I've driven around quite a bit of Italy and I hated driving in Rome but mainly due to trying to navigate around the place, it is full of left or right turn only and one ways, its a very busy maze!

My Euro plans will be mostly rural - I don't plan on seeing and major towns. I just want some nice quiet twisty roads and the sun shining...hard to get in this country.

Got it all this week in a Griff in Cambridgeshire. Cambridge to Wisbech, Thetford and King's Lynn, and Snetterton! In Wales A50, A40 to Pembrokshire. Roma and London a big no no.

Yes lots of it was nice & rather pretty, but the trouble starts when you hit any sort of roadworks. They seam to close roads for fun, then not give any diversions to follow & if you get lost (like me!), forget asking locals which way to go, especially police as they all send you in different directions or just shrug! I parked up no problem near the Monza circuit on Saturday, all well and good. However, when i tried to get back to the same spot on Sunday morning, took 1 wrong turn and was lost around Monza for 2 hrs! Could not get back to where we started due to road closures, diversions etc. & then the same day we left Monza for Lake Como which should have been a 1hr trip, 15mins away from the hotel thats right, they closed a tunnel! Again no diversions and no help. Ended taking another 2hrs on top.

Don't get me wrong, there are probably hundreds of roads which are amazing, but to me I got that pcensoredd off I was ready to beat someone to death, & to me it's just not worth it. All in all i must have wasted about 2 tanks of petrol and many 10's of euros in tolls on roads I didn't want to use!

Austrian roads are great and very smooth, very windy and very, very pretty! My favourite bit by some margin.
