Dammit, I tried to delete the post to stick it in the "things that annoy you" thread. I reconsidered giving this its own thread.
Anyway , here's the post, so I don't get accused of hiding something:
My car had the windscreen replaced a few weeks ago, the guy seemed to do a decent job, apart from the f
king horrid massive tax-disc holder he stuck to the screen, seemingly as close to the middle as he could get it.
I bought a small magnetic holder yesterday, I tore off the massive branded thing and removed my disc from it... something wasn't right, I couldn't put my finger on it. Then it hit me, like a massive rattle-ram to the stomach. The dirty fking thieving ing stbag took all my old discs, from the car was new, and presumably just tossed them in the bin. As casual as you like, part of the story of my car is gone, never to be told again.
Is it a big deal? Not really, they were worthless paper circles. They were my worthless paper circles though, if I was in someone's car and found 8 worthless paper circles, I wouldn't fking throw them out, they wouldn't be my worthless paper circles to throw out. .
For the Mail readers: is this a symptom of Broken Britain? Where people either steal the belongings of others with reckless abandon or just simply don't see the value, sentimental or material, in the property of other people?

I can see your point, I have all the tax disc from my first car, a Capri MK1 (OJA 375G), they are in frame in the downstairs loo, quite interesting as you see FEB 73 on one and its 12 quid, can see the time my dad had the car and couldnt afford to put a year on, they used to do 4 months back then as well.

Not true.Past tax discs in the sort of cars I buy prove what sort of life the car has had. I bought my mk1 xr2 in 2001 with every tax disc from new. Proving, with the mot histoy, that it had been continuously on the road and not laid up for any extended period, or at the very least with the intention of being used on the road every year. A lot to be said for a 20 year old (at the time) Fiesta. probably why all the rubbers were still in good nick.
The old hand written tax discs from local post office's also give a nice history of the cars whereabouts over the years.
It wont matter so much if your buying a fairly new car.
It is part of the history and depending on what car it was i could be anything up to livid if I was the OP.

A second hand laptop is easier to sell if it has the original packaging, but in this case the OP left the box on top of his wheelie bin on collection day.
If they're that precious the old ones should have gone in the history file, not just left in a place where they look like rubbish.

You're right to be annoyed, Papa Hotel. You paid him to replace your windscreen, nothing more.
I was annoyed when I took my Golf in for a standard service at a VW dealership and I got it back with their huge branded tax disc holder in the place of the nice, plain one I'd paid money to get in the first place. fked me right off.
I won't use that dealership again, but I'm now quite specific about what I will and won't allow to happen to my car if it's taken for a service anywhere (including whether or not they are allowed to wash it).

As a couple of others have said, old discs do tell a story, the car has had continuous use rather than having been laid up for a period.
They're my tat to decide what to do with and I wanted them kept.
