As in title really, just how loud can a car be before it'll get declined an MOT certificate? I ask because I spoke to someone recently who's Fiesta ST with manifold, sports cat and powerflow cat-back apparently failed due to the excessive noise.

I'm considering a full Milltek system on my car but wondered if I could expect the same problems in future?

Testers discretion, I've had a car fail for it before....it was/is far to loud though.

Hmmm so there's no set DB limit? That's good to hear, nothing that can't be sorted with a box of chocolates on the seat smile

Even Milltek's "non-resonated" systems are not loud at all. I wouldn't worry in the slightest. I've got a straight pipe on my car, thankfully I have a sympathetic tester and as long as I take the original backbox in the boot at MOT time, he passes the noisey pipe.

On the other side of it, the same car passed at a different place and it rattled the windows in the waiting room. It was a different exhaust that had more of a 'bassy' note.

It's all up to the discretion of the tester. The guidelines are basically if it's louder than it left the factory then it's a fail
