Cottage at New Year.

Hey there,
I'm currently trawling through all the holiday home sites looking for a cottage for 6 people over Hogmany, does anybody have any advice on whether it's a good idea to book something now or wait until December time?
One of the website did state that some properties would only become available 4 weeks before the New Year.
