Why does PH insist on a separate thread for You Tube vids?
Discussion
Because it would give us an extra 50 threads a day cluttering up the place. Same reason we don't want one thread for every joke and one for every funny picture.
You say you could be choosy about which ones you read, but lots of people would just put a thread title like 'funny video' or 'look at this everyone'

But using that phylosophy would mean that all "news" items should go in one thread to save cluttering up the place. And there's me thinking this was a place where people started threads for the interest of others

Because as we've ststed many times in the past, the forum would be littered with individual clips.
The main reason the Official Thread was originally set up was at the request of many members to clean out the P&P forum.
I can't see the policy to "link the thread and close" changing at all at present, there is really no reason not to post and discuss the clip in the main thread.
There have been almost 20 thousand posts to date in the two volumes that have run.

Maybe a separate you tube forum may be good then?
That has been discussed in the past but it was decided that it was a non runner, we feel that the current system works to meet our current need. That's not to say it may not change in the future, but it won't in the short term.
