I've always known it was there, but can't remember what it is actually for. The other button you can see is the boot release.

I thought it was something to do with the intermittent wipers (mine have never worked!), but realised there's is a twisty thing on the steering wheel for that.

Is this a standard thing, or something someone's added?

[Excuse the dirt!]

Thanks

If memory serves, it is for the separate cold air fan for the drivers footwell. There is a separate vent that bypasses the heating system - the fan motor sits somewhere in the drivers side wing.

Thanks, will give it a try.

I need to look at the heating system anyway, as I don't seem to get anything from the middle vents.

Right, so as far as I can tell the switch is the control for an extra cold-air fan for the drivers side.
I's meant to blow air out of the drivers side vent, and in some cases an extra vent in the footwell.

Mine doesn't seem to do anything at all, so hopefully a fuse/wiring problem as opposed to the blower motor. Does anyone know what I should try first?!

Also, the centre air vents(behind window switches), how are these meant to work? With the main heater/blower?

Yep, these are supplied by the main blower and should come on with the other face level vents.
Mine were pretty weedy until I realised they were half shut (the roller switch to open them is pretty stiff).

Don't know why they deleted the cold air footwell blower on later cars - it can get pretty toasty down there!

Thanks all.

Looks like I have two issues then, the secondary blower not working, and no air from the middle vents. Maybe ill check the pipework when I've next got a bit of time.

Any idea if there is a second fuse for the drivers side fan?

Air flow in mine was pretty non-existant until I took it on a track day - speeds over 120 mph blew the chewed insulation and seed husks out of the system, making shades essential rather than a cool optional extra.

Still haven't worked out where the little blighters got in.....furiousread

Is the switch actually connected? And if so, does it fail to work in all positions?

Earlier Chims had a separate fan on the drivers side which serves cold air only (I use the term cold loosely).

I have no idea on fusing of this fan as I've never had to investigate on mine as it works (but is a waste of time TBH and never used). My main fan seized up so it's quite possible that the secondary fan may have in your case.

Finally found the access point for fresh air - it's the hole in the front bumper, immediately below the nearside indicator on a later Chim. Yay!!!!!
