North West: Project Management / Engineering Jobs/Agencies?

I recognise this perhaps isn't the best time to be looking for a new job but for the sake of a long distance relationship I think it's about time I looked to move to the North West.

I have 3 years of experience in Oil & Gas Project Engineering, primarily power generation. Before that I worked in an unrelated but professional field in which I have two degrees (recession bites)

Can anyone point me in the direction of worthwhile Engineering agencies or perhaps companies looking to hire PM's/PE's in the North West.

I would try:

Serco Assurance - based in Warrington (Risley)

WS Atkins (Well Atkins now) - Same location

Vectra or whatever they're called these days. Ah Arcadis.

Frazer-Nash. Warrington

AMEC Warrington

And a good few others all based in Warrington.

The UK nuclear industry is based there and most of the consultancies that grew out of it also do other high hazard stuff these days.

Where specifically in the NW? Capita do all the admin for Nuclear I'm not sure if you register with them direct or they take CV's from smaller local agencies like NRL, and Rullion to name a couple.

Risley in Warrington has allot of desk based people, design engineers, project engineers and support roles. Anything hands on (for nuclear) you'd have to look to be based in Cumbria. Depends whether you want to contract/agency or want a staff position.

A few of the bigger players off the top of my head:

React Engineering-Staff roles
Atkins-contract and staff
Doosan Babcock-contract and staff
James Fisher Nuclear.

LLWR (low level waste repository) Staff only but no doubt source agency workers. Good job security for staff jobs i.e the place ain't going anyhwere for the next couple of hundred years.

Selafield ltd-Staff jobs, difficult to get although they are recruiting now for some engineering roles. Huge work force so they tend to recruit internally for long term posts or get agency staff in for short term roles, although I know people who through choice have been agency supplied workers for 2 decades or more. Once you have your foot in the door lots of scope to move around and very good T&C's in terms of annual leave etc etc.
