Rear Wing.
What angle do others use when measuring the end plate top surface in relation to the ground?

Tyres.
My trackday last weekend has taken it's toll on the tyres. I estimate about 2000 road miles removed in one trackday from my medium compound Khumos!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I trailered the car home and it stood for 4 days before I went out and the lack of grip is very noticeable compared with before the trackday. It may be down to the marbles of rubber on the tyres but they have now gone and although the grip has improved I am wondering if the heat cycle I put into them last weekend had hardened the rubber. Anybody else found this?

I think these tyres will only do a couple of trackdays before they are no longer road legal so I am thinking I need a second set of wheels and tyres.
If you have a set of Ultima wheels you want to sell let me know.

What are the current favourite road tyres for an Ultima?

2K worth removed of rubber removed and still there's life in the Kumhos, that's not bad.... my Atom would destroy a pair of A048s in less than 1,500miles, that's promising for the Can Am then, I thought I ws going to need shares in rubber wink

Seriously, I had a similr issue with the Pilot Super Sports I had on the RS. They got overheated once and it felt like 50% of the grip was lost, despite there being 4mm+ of tread left. It took a long time for some of the grip to come back, but they were, in truth, knackered. It'll be interesting to hear whether the Kumho's (Ecsta V70s??) suffer the same fate.

Are there many other options out there in Ultima fitment or does it mean a size change?

Kumhos are barely legal to start with, 3.5mm or so tread depth from new!
better off with two sets of wheels/tyres IMO.

+1 If you run on the track it's the only way to go, IMVHO.

im running Toyo R888 on the rear and very pleased at the mileage and wear I am getting.

They dont do the standard 245/35/18 fronts though but do do a 255/35/18 front of which a few cars on here have been running, Better safe than sorry im looking at widening my front wheels on the inside by 1 inch so it doesnt have clearance issures with tyre/ wheel arch.

A job for the winter.

I think the Khumos would have been good for probably 4000miles on the road. Unless you are a lunatic, that is!

Track driving at 9/10 of my ability reduced that in a day.

All I need are the wheels.

Any thoughts on the wing angle?

Might be worth trying hard compound ones?

4K on a pair of rears with 500bhp? I can live with that.... I on;y get 4.5K out of a pair of fronts in my MP350 Forcus RS wink

Regarding the compound change, has anyone tried it on the V70s? I wanted to get my Atom's tyres to last longer so stepped upto A048 hards. I instantly regretted it as they had less grip and needed to be really worked to get heat in them. OK they lasted longer on the road, but every mile I lacked traction, I cursed my penny pinching.

4000 miles with the kumhos on public roads, you must be kidding, you sure you are talking about an ultima ?
they come with less than half of thread of a Goodyear and i could not get 4k miles out the F1.

It seems that our European cousins are absolute lunatics behind the wheel of a car.

I am no slouch on the road but our country roads are so poor that you can't push on to the limit of an Ultima. Main A roads are a bit better but you soon end up at licence removal speeds before getting to the limits of grip! Traffic levels are another tyre life saver. Plenty of speed limit dorks around as well, and God forbid if they were to break the limit.

If you spin the wheels at every start and skid to a halt then you could help Khumo's profit margins. If you drive normally but give it the beans in a sensible manner the 4K mile life is easily possible.

Sounds like our mainland Cousins may look impressive smoking around everywhere, but would never win a race wink

Done 1200 road miles with hard rears and a trackday, not been overtaken once on track and reckon they're not half worn.

That's kinda the point,(assuming you're running Kumhos) if they were half worn they would be road illegal.
If they were softer compound they would be even more so.

Kinda the point of what? When I say half worn, that is related to the actual tyre I have, so i am half way through its legal life....

If you're running Khumos and they are half worn Half of 3.5mm is 1.75mm vis a vis no longer road legal.

I think you are saying you have nearly used 0.75mm of tread thus leaving you 0.75mm above the legal depth in which case you have managed 1200 miles and a track day on less than 0.75mm of tread

I love the austrian and italian alps, there is much grip and you can push the Ultima to the limit (without smoking tires)
After 1500 miles my rear hard Kumhos looks like this:

Think it´s time to change the tyres biggrin

Christian

I assume you like slideing out of those alpine hairpin bends. If you got caught by the police with tyres like that in the UK I think they would lock you up!!!!

In Switzerland serious trouble too. It does look like some PZero Corsas I had when driving back from a track race many moons ago in my 92'RS, and it was raining too... Thinking about it now, I guess I was lucky not to have any problems
