Crikey, i could spend all day long watching these

Anyway, i think this one:

is a testement to the build of the convertible. Considering it has no roof, there seems to be minimal intrusion onto the dummy. Im unsure of the * rating for this vehicle but im sure its good.

Anyone got any other decent crash test videos?

I remember a news report about this a while back where cars such as Nissan Micras could be completely stoved in and written off by a 5mph rear-ender. Ridiculous really, and I think driven by pedestrian safety bks insisting your car has to deform like a wet tissue should someone step into the road without looking

They have a point, why dont bumper bars stretch longer out? Is it so you dont kill a kid?

It's a damned if you / damned if you don't scenario for car makers... on the one hand, they could fit the cars with full width bumper bars, making them nice and stiff, and rigid - this would satisfy the Insurance Industry who are trying to drive down the costs involved in low speed impacts.

However, Euro NCAP would then test a car and they'd be public outcry when the bumpers can shatter childrens legs!

Having said that, if you look at the NCAP for the MINI, it's bumper gets a full 'red' scoring, so it's not winning there either!

In fairness though, the MINI is due to be replaced next year, so it's an old design. Looking at comparable new models like the new Clio, their bumper fairs much better - so it'd be interesting to see how they cope with low speed dings.
