dropout spacer?

Does this type of thing exist? I need to make the U-shaped 'gap' that the axle fits into smaller on one side.

Surely that would only occur with a bent dropout or a crushed axle?

or a cheap bike (belongs to the missus) where they have hung the rear derailleur off the dropout, thus losing some depth on one side only

Can't you open out the mech hanger with a round file. Check it really is borked first though. Did you tighten the wheel with the bike on the floor not on a stand? (apologies if I'm telling granny to suck eggs)

it isn't actual broken, it's a design 'feature'.

I just want a small u-shaped fitment to go into the drop-out on one side to even up the size of the drop-out gap on both sides

Assuming you've replaced the derailleur with one hung from a bracket, can you not cut down the original to use as the spacer?

I haven't, which is why I need a spacer on the other side...

But why can't you take off some material rather than pad out?
