Hi all,

I'm looking for a place to take out a couple of friends for a 'thank you' dinner, ideally either in Hertford/Ware or out that way. I woudnt mind a short drive from there, but not more than 15 or so mins.

We're looking for somewhere between a Harvester and Auberge Du Lac at Brockett Hall (ruled out as being a bit poncy!)

Does anyone have any recommendations?

All suggestions greatfully recieved.

Cheers

I can vouch for the whistling duck. Been there a little while ago for a friends birthday and the food and service were fantastic.

Great, thanks. Wasnt sure if it was a bit more of a 'party' place as it looks like it might get lively later on.

The Anchor, Wadesmill.

Really good food, part of the 2for1 chain of restaurants so cheap too. Me and my girlfriend are there regularly, last weekend I paid £23 for two big meals, two deserts, a pint and a large soft drink... Oh and the garden is a nice place to sit and eat too

Found Jacobys in Ware ok a few times that I have been there, normally decent food.

Sfizio's in Ware. Great Italian restaurant. Quite a lively loud place, kinda like an italian family dinner.

Lussmans in Hertford. Fanatastic seasonal menu. great service and a real quality bespoke feel.

If you're looking for nice, quaint pubs that serve good food, there's the Three Horseshoes in Little Berkhampstead and The Woodsman on the outskirts of Broxbourne.

I often go to the Anchor at Wadesmill as they are a good value pub but with food a little bit more special than standard pub grub.

For restaurants I also recommend Lussmans in Hertford or Jacobys in Ware. I have had good reports of Whistling Duck, Loch Fyne and Three Lakes although not yet visited myself.

The Bull at Watton at Stone or The Grandison at Bramfield just outside Hertford. Most pubs seems to be Gastro nowadays but these two edge it for me. Both have websites. Enjoy.

Or there is a really good chip shop in Stevenage wink

This place is good - just up the hill past Van Hage's - 2 mins from Ware http://www.choppysrestaurant.com/

A little further out is the Fox and Hounds at Hunsdon (5 mins from Ware) - very good gastro pub, chef used to cook for Conran http://www.foxandhounds-hunsdon.co.uk/

Further out than that (10 mins from Ware - great driver's road too) is The Bull in Much Hadham http://www.thebullmuchhadham.co.uk/ - my local, and very good food - chef just arrived back from a long stint at Auberge Du Lac
