Hi peeps,

Have decided to start looking in/around Egham for a house as it's easy for me to get to Clapham junction and the OH to get to Feltham.

Any recommendations on where to avoid/look out for? Staines is a possibility but have heard some negative stuff about it, same goes for Englefield Green. Would love VW, but not got the budget for anything there (am not a powerfully built director yet!).

In my book its only slightly better than Stains, which is saying something.

There are nicer areas not far away and still on the mainline.

Am only working with a budget of £270k, which rules out quite a lot tbh.

You will end up in a hole in Egham for that.

I never thought I'd say this, but try the villages round Woking.

Thorpe is a bit of trip for the train I would think.

Thorpe is a tad far from a station. Went to Egham & Staines a couple of months ago - during the day it didn't seem too bad tbh. Maybe it's at the weekend/evenings the undesirables come out.

The main thing is the OH has to be near a station that serves Feltham as she doesn't drive - I'm not too concerned as I have a bike to commute if need be. Bracknell/Wokingham is a bit too far out, any other suggestions?

Don't rule out Staines, like anywhere there are good and bad parts and Egham is so close its hardly like you're miles away from it. I lived near the station (south side of Staines) and that was great (look at Penton Road). I could walk into the town (good for shopping and beers) and walk to the station everyday. Staines is also a main station so you'll get more trains and the fast trains.
