Some background: I'm 23, would regard myself as of normal fitness, walk to work every day, don't do much excersise other than that, fair diet, no overly heavy drinking/smoking.

Recently (last month or two) I've been having a weird sensation in my chest, left side, so obviously worrying. It's kind of like a weird floaty sensation, almost as if there were helium bubbles rising up inside, I'm not sure if I would describe as a tightness as such, but it makes me very very aware of that area, as the rising, bubbly like feeling is countaracted by my chest (I assume heart, maybe?) feeling heavier, which is where this feeling of awareness comes from. It is not painful, just uncomfortable, enough that on occasion maybe once a week when I get it I have to put a hand on that side of my chest and apply some pressure to try to ease it.

I rather unwisely decided to look up heart problems on wiki and now I'm in all sorts of bother as a lot of the symptoms on the heart attack page match what I feel. But I would gues that as I'm still alive I haven't had one!

This feeling comes on maybe once or twice a day for short lengths of time, maybe 5 - 1o minutes. I'm half inclined to think it's all in my head, because when I'm aware of it, concentrating on it, it gets worse, and sometimes I will go a while without thinking about it and not get it at all.

It's been long enough that I'm going to arrage a Drs trip, just wondering if anyone has had anything similar or any advice. I'm assuming that as I'm still waking up in the mornings it's something that is more 'worrying' that 'immediately serious' !

Thanks

C

Are you stressed about anything. Try stopping Coffee as this can cause it too. I had a touch of fluttery heart thing a few years ago when I was waiting for a mjor op. (not heart related) Guessed it was just stress at the imminent op and never had it since.
Just get to the Docs for a checkup and he will sort it out and assure you it isn't anything to worry about.

I do have some major stresses at the moment, that affect me day to day (money). So I guess that could be a big factor.

Could it be palpitations? (Heart having the occasional irregular beat) My ex suffered from this and turned out to be a thyroid problem. Best get it checked out!

Do you know what your resting heart rate (rhr) is? Perhaps you could take it first thing in the morning when you wake up. Anywhere between 60-80 is normal but don't worry unless you're rhr is significantly outside those figures. Have your blood pressure (bp) taken, or buy a kit. Normal bp is considered 120/80.

Best thing if you're worried is make an appointment with your doctor.

Worst thing if you're worried is to google heart problems, as you've discovered.

I would guess that anxiety is the cause, but get yourself to the docs pronto.

It sounds like acid reflux, Google it and see if the symptoms match.

Still worth checking with your GP.

heart attacky problems are said to feel like being hit in the chest by a hammer if having a heavy weight crushing your chest, if you don't feel that it's likely something else non hearty

Might be palpitations as someone said. Mine were caused by coffee (as someone also said!!) - try giving up tea/coffee of try decaff for a bit.

Does it feel like your heart shivers a bit and then 'resets'?

If so, I had the same exactly a few months back. For me it was stress. ECG showed I have a healthy heart, low resting heartrate etc., but I was really stressed out at work.

Easier to say rather than do, but try to relax a little, maybe go for a long walk this weekend or something. smile

I've had exactly this on and off over the past 9 months.
Being a bloke I have largely ignored it but I think it's anxiety related. The more you think about it, the worse it gets.
I find doing something that takes your mind off it is the best bet, probably should get it checked out though wobble

"Classic" MI (myocardial infarction: heart attack if you like) does feel like that, but you can get, at the other end of the scale "silent MIs" (pain free) although these are mainly (but not totally) confined to diabetics, the elderly, females or those of Asian decent.

From what you've said, I would doubt it was a MI or any other cardiac issue. I would say it is pleuritic (your lungs): maybe an infection.

But I wouldn't diagnose you from an internet post!

Book an appointment with your GP. That is the only way to know what is happening and to put your mind at rest.

Sounds like palpitations to me too, I got them in pregnancy; seem to have died off a bit now I limit my caffeine to 1 cuppa tea a day
To me if feels like my heart has stopped beating; feels very light and then all of a sudden it starts again, sometimes very fast, sometimes just normal

That's the exact feeling I get 3 times a week. ! It's crazy I do the same thing you do and place my finger on my chest in hopes it will ease the bubble feeling or pinch the other side of my chest so I can get the feeling somewhere else( doesn't work). I have been prone to anxiety attacks within the last year. This could be cause, from what I have been reading online from other people . It mainly occurs when I am laying in bed for the night. But you described everything that happens to me and the same way I react. I'm glad I'm not the only one freaked out by this and it helped me get through this current episode.
