Best place for pre-theatre dinner in the West End

As per title really, I am taking the wife away to London for her 30th Birthday and watching a show at Her Manesty's Theatre. The show starts at 19:30, have to be there for 19:00 to get our tickets. So was wondering if anyone has any suggestions for a suitable restaurant, that will allow us to get to the theatre on time, and not be too rushed.

Did try a search but it is down again. Not really looking to go to an Indian restaurant, my favourite but not her's and it is her weekend after all. She did mention she liked the idea of Teppanyaki, but other options would be welcome too.

This is only my second visit to London, so should be exciting.

Whoops, probably about £30-40 ahead would not be unreasonable, neither of us really drink so that would mainly be food with soft drinks.

What kind of time frame are we looking for a three course sitting? For instance if I booked a table for 16:45, would that be about right for getting to the theatre by 19:00?

There is a great restaurant in Covent Garden called Cafe des Amis (sp) and if you book via Toptable and go after the theatre you can get 50% off everything including drinks. Quite a good deal and the food is nice.


For a special treat the Hilton does a lunch menu for £30 for three courses and champers, the view is fantastic and it really is a special event not to be forgotten.

Anyone take Taxi's round London? How long sould it take to find a Taxi around Big Easy Bar.B.Q & Crabshack
332-334 Kings Road, Chelsea, London, SW3 5UR and then get to Her Majesty's Theatre. The restaurant reckons 45 mins, does that sound right?

£20-30 depending on traffic might be a bit less hopefully! Also it shouldn't be a problem getting a black cab from the Kings Road they might also be able to order you one whilst you are getting your bill.

couple of quid, 45 mins on bus and walking.

1) Old Church Street / Kings RoadStop (right near place you are eating)
2) Route Bus 19/22 get off at Piccadilly Circus (40mins)
3) walk to theatre which is 5-10 mins

Or if you have time walk up to Sloane Square circle/district to Embankment then another short walk from there.

You'd struggle to enjoy a two-course dinner with soft drinks and tip for under £40/head.

Thanks once again Eversleigh, this looks like the way forward. A short walk to Sloane Square station 4 stops get off at Embankment and then a ten minute walk to the theatre. The tube appears to run every few minutes looking at website and possibly not that expensive (not that I understood the whole zone thing, but how expensive can 4 stops be?).

Will have to look at Hotel to Restaurant now!

Edit to say:

Restaurant to Sloane Square is a twenty minute walk, perhaps a bus might be involved as well.
