Rode into London today on the M4. Just past Langley, lane two (of four) was blocked with a 4-vehicle shunt. I didn't see anything on the signs before passing the incident but the sign after displayed a "slow-down, accident" message & the following gantry showed a red X for lane closed & then every sign up to the M25 intersection.

Only it wasn't.

Starry bra & all that but just seemed a bit odd. Or do they get a tick in the box for using the signs in the vicinity?

Happens all the time, I used to believe them but now I just treat them as an advisory that there may possibly be something going on ahead but in all likelyhood it cleared up half an hour ago or never happened in the first place.

Yeah, the matrix signs are always lying on my bit of the M11, saying that there's a queue on the slip road when there isn't.

Lying bd signs. mad

They were 'salt spreading' on the m4 near Bristol today according to the matrix sign.

I've seen the smaller matrix signs on the M3 say "Fog" quite a few times - even when the weather is bright & sunny hehe

The M25 signs through the Heathrow stretch regularly tell you to drop your speed to 40mph/50mph when the traffic is flowing freely at NSL banghead Went through that section a couple of years ago at 4am once on the way to a car show and the signs were saying 30mph accident ahead - but the motorway was completely clear.
