battery warning lite V8S

Hi,

can anyone advise me on the cause for my Battery warning lite to stay on after i turn igntion off. It goes out when i turn ignition on and start it. But as soon as ignition turned off, it comes on.

Two possible areas that may be contributary. 1st the car was in the garage earlier to do for an engine tune up. Secondly, which could be more relevant, i had just washed the car down.

i have checked the battery leads onto the Battery and all is dry and tight.

May i have soaked the starter motor connections when spraying hose underneath bodywork area?

Or is it a Battery fault?

Could the garage have disturbed something? Big coincidence it (I'd suspect the alternator or connections) should go faulty same day

Most unlikely to be a battery fault, imho, and I doubt the washing will have done any harm, have you seem how much water sprays around under a car when driving in rain?

Diode pack - mine exhibited similar symptoms (I posted a thread on here a week or so back) the exciter cct diode pack had a intermittent short on it so it was feeding back through the warning light cct..

It was actually my fault (I caused the short) but the symptoms were the same...

You can buy the diode pack on its own and its really easy to fit - disconnect the battery first. I've got a thread from when I dismantled my alternator I'll go and find it and add it to this thread.

Its the bit I call a regulator near the beginning of the thread.

You can get them on ebay although no doubt some are cheap chinese crepe.

in conclusion, i am fortunate to have found an auto electrical specialists local to me. They replaced the rectifier in the alternator for £40. just took a couple of hours too.

have got a spare battery and will use that to put charge thro ignition, so i may open the boot to get to the cars battery to recharge.
