Biggest insurance reduction/hike you've experienced?

As the titles suggests, i don't believe a thread like this exists?

I ask as against the odds, my year premium has decreased from £189 a month to £161 (about £360 per annum less).

This is on a 3.0 2005 A8.

What experience have you's had in the past?

2004, moved from NI to Chichester, insurance went from £812 to £396.

A nice reduction of £412.

In 2009 I went from a lightly modded Impreza sport (non turbo) to a brand spanking new Impreza diesel (£19k price difference), insurance went from £649 to £302!

Last year my renewal went like this:-

-Same car (now worth less)
-Same postcode (average risk-unchanged)
-Same drivers (no more points)
-Same policy terms (Comp, 8k miles)
-1 more year NCD (to 4).

Increase of 49%?!

Took my business elsewhere.

First year driving paid £1200. Second year on the same car and through the same insurer, £500

With 2yrs NCB with co-operative, they quoted me £1977. Shopped around and got it for £1156 (E46 320d, 22 years old)

Just before I went to uni' I was paying about £700 for a MK3 Honda Prelude with Endsleigh who had an office outside the uni main building. They wanted to increase this to £4200 when I arrived.

February this year, my Sportrak went from £219 a year to £650, I changed to a different company and paid £198

Just wondering if you had tried admiral? Im 21 and an E46 320d Sport quoted at £890 for me with admiral - 15K miles and 2 years NCB, havent found anyone anywhere that can beat it for any car

Year 1, insured my Elise with a well know specialist broker, cost was X.
year 2, renewal comes through for X+50%, I check on a comparison site, and can get the insurance for a bit less than X with an every day big name insurer.
Year 3, insurance renewal is still X so no brainer, stay with big name.

I don't remember the actual figures, just that it was nearly 50% more in year 2

Almost exactly the same happened to me last December, but with 13 years NCD. Went from £490 to £1050. Strange, as i'd been with the same company for years and they'd always been competitive.
This is the insurance company who are famously 'not on any comparison websites'.

1100 down to 860 :/

Although getting 1100 in the first place, 860 and now 740 this year took some time! (cue load of rejections, 4000 tpf, 3000 etc)

I changed my 2003 Astray 1.6 SXI to a Honda S2000 and got 9 pound refunded from quote me happy! That was just 250 pound a year, with 2 years ncb. That was the biggest supprise.

Aviva, car insurance was £365. This year, with no change, plus extra year older + extra year no claims, they wanted £1780

so nearly a 500% increase in 12 months.

But I rang them up, said F*ck off, your having a laugh, and they brought put it back down to £365 for this year.

£2800 down to £1200. Would've been down to £795 but I changed to a car with just short of 4 times more power. Bargain? I like to think so, others don't!!

I went from a peugeot 406 to a BMW 3 series.



My jaw hit the floor when they refunded me some of my premium because it was a lower insurance group.

2000 down to 1700. (I'm 19)

I'm really not complaining. The money was spent on hookers and coke, of course.

I don't have a car, but am a named driver on my nan's as I sometimes need to use one, so I contribute the extra insurance and pay half the RFL each year. Altogether we're paying £1400 for the year's insurance. Renewal is about a month away so I've been doing some quotes, we're looking at £450 for the next year's insurance. Unbelievable saving.

Changing from a 306 to a Civic my insurance went up by £150 a year, however I had to switch insurers because "it is on a list of high performance vehicles that we do not insure"
