You can also google for 'dvla vehicle check' that will show the latest on its registration.
There is also https://www.cartell.ie/, which only requires the reg number, but gives less info than the DVLA. However, it does show if the number is now on another vehicle.

It was originally an Austin 1800 which the owner "converted" into an MG 1800. He must have managed to re-regster it as an MG.
This is the only reference I have to it from a 1970 article.
I don't know much more about the car other than the mention in the article.
It was modified by colonel Rixon Bucknall who had a history of modifying his cars going back to the 1930's.
The article comes from a magazine called High Road which I believe was an in-house magazine for BL or whatever they were called then. The author was the well-respected journalist Philip Llewelin and the article was about Rixon Bucknall's various modified cars.
This picture comes from the same article and shows the car along with Rixon Bucknalls Jaguar special.

mph, I'm fascinated by the Jaguar Special, and the pix on the old thread linked by 47p2 are great. Do you still own the Special, and does it still have the RB1903 reg? How did you come to own it?
I remember seeing a picture of this very Jag Special in an article about interesting cars published in the weekend colour supplement of the Times (or possibly the Daily Telegraph) round about 1969, when I was a 6th former at skoo.

I first saw the Special in the 1980's during a visit to restoration specialist David Royle. Royle's carried out some re-commissioning of the car and then their customer asked Royle's to sell it. It was way out of my league at the time but I determined to buy it and raised the money by various means.
I remember David Royle telling me that I would be surprised at the car's performance - and I was, my then girlfriend struggling to keep up with me on the drive home.
Because the car and the colonel had been so well known, and the whereabouts of the car had been a mystery for years, I received a very warm welcome by various luminaries in the JDC, some of whom had worked on the car with the colonel and had known him well.
For a combination of reasons I stupidly sold the car two years later and then spent the next fourteen years or so trying to get it back.
Again through a fortuitous (for me) set of circumtaces, including a high court case, I managed to get the car back from the chap I'd sold it to all those years ago.
The car is once again in fine fettle and I'm off to France in it on saturday.
The colour supplement article you refer to remains elusive and is just about the only thing I haven't managed to track down or even identify . I have a large suitcase full of articles, corrrespondence, photographs and colour slides from the period.

That article I referred to I'm pretty sure was the Sunday Times Magazine, and 1968-69-70 feels about right, in terms of how old I was when I was reading various sorts of things about cars. I can see it in my mind's eye: there was a picture with a caption, but I don't think the car itself was referred to in the text. The article was about interesting cars in general (can't remember the title or overall specific theme) rather than just one individual car.
Have a great France trip, mph, and post some piccies of the car on here when you get back.

My many books on cars are crammed with relevant cuttings over the years, and I've just found the one I had in mind tucked into a book about Jaguars. Looks like I kept the photo of the car but not the complete article, unfortunately, so I still don't know what specific aspect of cars the article as a whole was covering.
Looks like I copied the caption down before taking the cutting: it says "DT mag 21/10/66. Col. Rixon Bucknall with his 150mph Jag. special". (DT = Daily Telegraph.)
So I was slightly out when I reckoned the article dated from about 1969.
21/10/66 was a Friday: odd, that, because I don't remember the Telegraph doing a colour magazine on Fridays - thought it was weekends.
Took me a while to decipher what I'd written in brackets: it says "(Day of Aberfan)" - ie this article appeared on the same day as that dreadful disaster when a slag heap collapsed onto a village school, killing a large number of people. Terrible.

Now can anyone tell me how/where I can find a copy of the Telegraph magazine from that date ?
I would chance my arm with a letter directly to the Telegraph editor as I know newspapers do keep archive copies although that far back I dont know.
Also there used to be companies that sold old newspapers to be used a gift on a persons birthdate so maybe this is an avenue you could explore ?
