I thought the last instalment in the tale of man discovers cycling was you talking about how many tweaks you'd made during your bike fitting? confused

Have a read of this:

Sounds like you should ask the fitting place for a refund...

You also went clipless all of a couple of weeks ago. Took me a while to get my cleats set in a comfortable position.

That seems like a bit of an assumption. If it is a cycling injury and it isn't a one off like a dodgy unclip or accident I'd imagine the odds of it being down to one of the many changes you've made recently are quite high. Cleat position seems like a good place to start.

I suffered from knee pain a month or so after first going clipless, despite cycling daily. Admittedly it was more of a constant dull ache that came on over time rather than anything sudden or acute, but my point is that everything seemed good and comfortable initially. Some cleat tweaks solved the problem.

I had this earlier this year. I was training for a sportive as I wanted to set a PB on it. The training was going well and I went out for a 46 mile ride as my last training ride before the sportive. I came in with an 18.3 avg and was very pleased. The next day I rode with my club (a leisurely 35 mile ride) and my Achilles ached a bit. Monday morning I couldn't walk.

I was in agony for some time and didn't ride for 6 weeks, missing my sortive. When I did finally ride, it was still too soon and the ride set my recovery back.

I hadn't changed anything about my cycling in the last 2 years but on my training ride I attacked every hill and was 'on it' for the whole ride. I think I just over did it for my 50 year old ankles.

Recovery was lots of Voltarol gel, no riding, lots of RICE and lots of frustration. Tendons have veins the size of a human hair so blood supply is very low and this means they are very slow to recover. Be careful until you are fully recovered.
