Im sorry, but I just dont get it. I'll take a Corniche convertible.
That illustrates the point. Don't get me wrong, the corniche is a great car but it's more a statement of the obvious as opposed to a statement of discernment.
Cornishe coupe or convertible IMHO just doesn't work - "less is more", and a Bristol is much less but I guess more in a very discrete old English way. I have looked many times at buying a Bristol, in probably the same way as many look at buying a TVR i.e. it is almost what you want but not quite, Things like some of the attention to interior trim is just not up to standard, bumpers of some of the later cars so obviously off something totally different - same thing for the later wheels, so obviously off a Jaguar. The one pictured however is fantastic - but why infill the side 'spear' trim in white?

It was the then Sir George White's car (director of Bristol Cars) and has been restored to original spec, so maybe that's what he'd wanted? I wouldn't want it on mine, but I do think it looks very nice filled in white like that, and suits the brighter blue.Absolutely wonderful - I love the 410 and 411 models and sorely miss mine still (even if it was a bit of a snotter by Bristol standards).
To those comparing with a Corniche or similar I would suggest that it's not really a valid comparison. Having had experience (albeit limited) of various prestige cars the Bristol is "sportier" than most, more of a drivers car than a car to be driven in, hence the scarcity of four door examples. The V8s all go well but there are many differences between models and between cars, part and parcel of being "bespoke".
The Rolls Royces I've sampled have been superb but not in the least bit sporty, four doors and a chauffeur being preferred... Depending on year and spec' a better comparison might be as an upmarket Jaguar or Jensen or even a muscle car for Europeans - I draw the line at "an overgrown Capri" as someone once described mine!!!

A 411.
They seem to come in various guises.
Black grille on Series 5s, and the Series 4 had a Bristol nameplate instead of the Pegasus badge.Gassing Station | Classic Cars and Yesterday's Heroes | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
