Just curious, what do YOU do to your tiv for winter?

Bleed dry of all fluids?
Leave as is?
Leave on axel stands? Start once a fortnight?
Just change bits in the new year before she sees the road again?

Put it in a big box of straw and tuck it away at the back of the garden shed until spring time.

Put it om axle stands. Cover with an old cotton sheet. Drain and replace fuel when I come to start it again - phase separation on unleaded will destroy a high compression engine.

Likewise. The best driving days are in the winter - dry, bright cold and crisp...... bring it on!

Yep, the Vixen was used all last winter mostly weekends and the odd crisp day for going to work.

Be different this year though, off to be fixed over winter. smile

Have you tried a product called StaBil?

Best,

I've found the Dynax UB spray to be really good. Did my mini rear subframe last year with it, and now it still looks like it did then. Whereas when I did it with waxoyl the first year, a year later it had all started rusting again.

I'd recommend it over waxoyl any day now, it's also not as messy IMO.

Dynax sounds good, I always mix my waxoyl with about 30% cheap sump oil and apply it hot. saucepan on a camping stove, preferably on a hot day if we ever get one, and yes it is MESSY! and for the garage queens, it does not look pretty dripping off the chassis, well, perhaps it does, but in a non concourse sort of away, like my carpets!

Interesting, I hadn't come across it. Looks very good for on a road engine but I'm not sure I'd trust it on a high compression race engine where octane is critical.

Unfortunately with low turnover of 97 octane super unleaded at many forecourts you are paying a premium price for fuel with a lower octane than standard, due the condensation in the tanks and phase separation. Not good on tweaked engines let alone race ones.

Truly! I hadn't realized that there was such a big problem with corrosion.

StaBil was recommended to me by the gent who is now the acting curator of the Collier Museum, Scott George. Somewhere around ten years ago, he did mention that they used it in everything. While that doesn't make it undisputed gospel, they do care for a rather large number of high compression engines. One thing that (slightly) invalidates his recommendation, is that the cars in that collection are kept in a building with very stabilized conditions.

I'll see if can't find something more "scholarly." That's usually required for Patent ap's, so I'll start there.

Best,
B.

Drive it, have used my Taimar as a daily driver for 12 years no major problems.
But my wife hates driving in snow/ice so I chauffeur her about in her Focus, for those few days.
But for this winter I am planning to do Adrian's heater blower up-grade, mentioned in a post earlier in the year.

I'm just in the process of getting a slim batt so I can refit the matrix. So far haven't had a heater.
