Central locking opening other cars?
Discussion
Weirdness in the work car park today, I went to open my car (2011 fiesta Zs) and when I clicked to unlock the Lexus is200's hazards flashed as if unlocking, and again when i locked mine they flashed again, I pressed it a few times to make sure it wasn't coincidence, I never tried the door but I'm guessing it didn't unlock it I'm just wondering why this happens
Good question - I've had this happen to me in B&Q once. Locked my car (Jeep) with the fob & the car next to me (Honda) unlocked. I tested it a couple of times & it worked every time!
I felt really guilty about leaving their car unlocked so I waited for them to come back!
Maybe it was the same frequency on the fobs or something like that - its never happened since though!

I've had this happen too. I always listen for the satisfying "kahlunk-dunk" of the locks when walking away from the car. I heard my locks engage, but also a different sound. It was the sound of the Audi next to my Honda.
Everytime I locked my Honda, the Audi would unlock and vice versa. I waited for the Audi owners for 5 minutes but was in a rush, so ended up unlocking the Honda (checking the Audi was locked!) and parking elsewhere. I guess like said above, it could just be the rare coincedence of matching fob frequencys?

My Sister's remote door bell used to open a Lotus Elise; many an hour of pissed comedy to be had!

I recall one time with my parents in a car park not too long after getting the V70 Dad went to unlock it. In doing so he set off the alarm of another V70 parked next to us! It didn't help there was a young child in the car either who was now petrified

Rather than waiting for the owner of the car you have unlocked to come back, couldn't you just lock the car using the key in the door?
Or, rather than locking their car then moving yours so you can lock it without unlocking theirs, why not lock yours then move theirs so you can lock it without unlocking yours? In the modern era of smart keys and keyless ignition, surely if your key unlocks another car it'll start it too?
