Really clean looking bike, silent running

Bike fashion is definately getting out of hand.

Spotted a guy on a bmx, frame pristine, polished.. could have been Ti I suppose - so marked out already as a fashion victim. No brakes.. ok, stupid fashion victim. Then I spot that he's spending a lot of time walking... ah, no chain. Must have snapped.. wait.. no. Cranks are there, but no chainring on them, no sprocket on the back and no chain.

I suppose this might not be unutterably st at a bike park, but really for your commuting in the city centre, how did you get to the conclusion this bike is what you needed?

Maybe he was going to a bike shop to get the remaining parts fitted?

Maybe did strike me as a bit weird though. I get the one brake only thing, and I can see how daft kids go brakeless, but take away the chain and youve just got a big wheeled scooter..

Disc brakes are clearly critical in this application.

Even as a die hard BMXer I find the craze....and this is not an isolated instance, of 'chainless' riding a bit pointless.
It renders the bike pretty pointless as an actual 'bike' and is just a stunt cycle...but not even a good one.
It makes some tricks harder but anything that involves rolling backwards is easier.
There's always a few innovators that push any sport forward some are good, but some fail and I can't see this one catching on like 'brakeless' has.
Fad riders always latch on to the next 'big thing' and usually can't ride for toffee, it's all about looking the part but some riders do push things.....

With regard to the rolling back, you can get rear hub/cassettes that freewheel backwards until you actually pedal so surely that negates the need to run chainless.

I was a BMXer back in the day (am still to a small extent) and always ensured my brakes were tip-top as we always used to ride around town like loonies, no brakes would have resulted in major accidents on more than one occasion! I really cannot understand riding with no brakes, even more so I cannot understand parents allowing children out on bikes with no brakes.

Free coasters never really caught on, and there's always a bit of play in the drive that is ready to spit you off.
Brakeless is pure 'fashion' I'm currently sat on the skatepark and there are no valid technical reasons for it, the very first Brakeless riders were vert riders and that was to stop the levers catching on shirts, but the street/park riders just say its better for bar spins and whips and they don't want to run gyros and laughably state the weight saving maters.
But it's all down to good riders like the chap in the video and the sheep follow....

I saw a kid riding a half-pipe on his BMX with no chain. It wasn't deliberate, it had broken. But he was pulling some amazing tricks nonetheless.

Perhaps you were looking at someone on the way to a park?
