Friend of mine has a 2001 M5 with 110k miles on the clock. It's good condition for it's age and has been properly looked after but he no longer needs that sort of transport and is looking to change to something more practical such as a diesel X5 (s/hand).

What would you say is the best way for him to go about this? I'd have thought he'd get a very small trade-in allowance if he went to a dealer and part ex'd it.

A lot of the dogs are going for only GBP 3,000 or so but a well looked after one with all the toys should get 6 to 10,000 privately.

This one has been looked after and I was thinking he maybe could get £8k - £8.5k for a private sale, so sounds like I'm in the ball park.
If I had the money, I'd have it for myself! Sadly, I'll have to stick with my '98 325 Touring for now...
