Touching up a frame

My brand new bike (Canyon) arrived yesterday and was unfortunately chipped on the rear seat stay (metal underneath at the dropout). I desperately don't want to have it sent back and wait another 3 weeks for a replacement, but it would be very useful to know where I could get it touched up (south west London) and how much it would cost. Any help appreciated. Thanks.

I would contact Canyon, they may agree for a local LBS or frame builder to do the repair and invoice Canyon.

I don't think they have a choice, they will be paying. I'd just rather avoid having it sent back to Germany if I can help it.

Firstly - please take this in the way it's intended... I'm fully aware that it's your hard earned, it should be right etc...

But seriously, a paint chip? Under the dropout? And your considering all the hassle off messing about getting a body shop to touch it in, and charging it back under warranty?

Surely - if your going to use this bike, you'll do more damage than that on its first ride ?

Agree with the above, especially if it's not visible during normal use. Grab some nail polish that matches the paint colour and fill it in - if it's a deep chip then use several thin layers and build it up waiting for each layer to dry between application, then put some heli tape over the top of it - then heli tape other critical areas like downtube and DS chainstay. I get my tape from this guy and have been happy with the results

Or a bit of Humbrol model paint. As above if you ride it it's going to get chipped to buggery in no time anyway.

Don't sweat it it's a mountain bike the first time enthusiasm exceeds skill it will pick up a scrape and it will pick up stone chips before then.

All comments appreciated. It's not on the bottom of the dropout, it is visible and it is a road bike so won't get the damage of a mtb. They've offered to pick it up and send me another one (which will cost them a lot from Germany), I'm looking at keeping it and getting the chip filled in. I'm aware after a few rides, it won't be perfect hence why I'm prepared to have it filled in, but it cost £2k+ and I want it without chips to start with, I don't think I'm asking too much.

have to agree with this. come the winter its going to get covered in crap, salt and muck, dont worry about it or you will never dare ride it anywhere...
