I need to contract hire a car, as cheaply as possible, with full warranty and maintenance cover for three years. I'm thinking a base model Up with no options, but I'm open to any sensible ideas. Key points:
  • Personal contract hire. I am not interested in buying the car.
  • 8k annual mileage limit. Might be interested in a lower limit if you have one.
  • Delivery ASAP.
  • Colour not important, spec not important - but as cheap as possible, please; this is a personal mobility solution only.
  • Ex-demo/nearly new is fine, but there must be a bumper-to-bumper proper manufacturer's warranty for the whole rental period.
  • Must be a small car that is inexpensive to insure. Performance (sorry everyone) is irrelevant. Economy is important, as is NCAP score.
I will not be the driver. The car is for my brother. It will be parked at his home (Ringwood, Hants), not mine. This has been a problem for some dealers, and I'm not interested in lying about it, so if you can't accomodate this, please pass on the deal.

I realise this is not a huge money-spinner. I promise I will make this as straightforward as I can. I won't need a test drive; I won't ask for extras at the last minute or quibble over spec. I will come and collect the car from you if necessary; I will agree the deal by email (or phone if you prefer) and turn the paperwork around promptly. I have bought cars (for myself) using posts like this on here before, so I'm not messing you around.

Thank you for your time. Please email me using the address on here if you have a deal for me.

[Backstory for those who care: my brother is a lovely chap, but not the sharpest tool in the box. We've been practising bangernomics for him for years, and he keeps being fleeced by unscrupulous backstreet garages who convince him that his car needs work every five minutes. He has the mechanical understanding of a small boll-weevil, and an obliging nature, so is therefore permanently broke. I want to help him out, and a new car on a rental deal seems the best answer; that way every time he convinces himself there's a problem, he can take it to a main dealer and they can either fix it under warranty if it's real, or tell him not to worry. I apologise in advance to the service receptionist of the dealer closest to Ringwood for whatever the chosen marque ends up being. He's a nice guy; make him a cup of tea...]

Please help me sort him out with some wheels.

What, really, no-one wants to sell me a car? Recession clearly over, then...

I did that, and ran into the "you can't hire it for someone else to drive / it has to be kept at your address" problem. I was hoping someone would save me the trouble of phoning round until I find a company that isn't troubled by this.

Who is the mobility person, you?

If so, I dont get how anyone is going to want to get involved in giving you a mobility car for someone else to use.

Sorry if I got the wrong end of the stick - I thought this refereed to discounted cars for disabled people.

I think all these deals have to be funded by the registered keeper at his main address probably due to money laundering legislation.

Can't your brother set up a deal if you go along with him to keep him right on it, even being guarantor if required?

That's what a neighbours states he's paying for one for his daughter! Link on the WhatCar website saying that Skoda are doing them themselves for £200 down and £75 per month.

I have had a mooch around, and certainly cannot see anything like that sort of deal!

He won't get credit; he's also not in a position (he has a learning disability) to handle the paperwork. I don't want to stand guarantor for him if I can help it, because a) I want to keep the credit providers away from him and b) in the nicest possible way, I don't want his credit file linked with mine, given that his has so many black marks it looks like a Dalmatian.

To clarify a previous poster's misconception, this is not a Motability scheme car or anything like that. When I said personal mobility solution, I meant I want four wheels, an engine and a warranty. No petrolhead considerations will be taken into account. A poo brown Dacia Sandero would be fine; at the moment he has an old Daewoo Matiz I bought for him...

Sounds like I'm looking for a leasing provider with a sensible MLRO. Surely somebody does this, if only to allow parents to get cars for their kids? After all, a 17-year old can't sign a contract hire agreement AFAIK.

is it not possible for you to lease it & have him as a additional driver, but I do agree you are not asking for much, it is stupid that no one can supply you

The problem is they want me to keep the car at my house. We live 100 miles apart. I am looking into this option, but I really don't want to fall foul of the terms of the hire agreement, since the whole point of this is to give him a completely pain-free motoring experience.

First place I went, went through all the stages to get a quote, then ran into two problems:

1. The person on the other end of the email wasn't reading what I was writing and
2. When he or she did, I found out about this issue with renting for someone else to drive

So they're a no go, I'm afraid. Am following up the one email I've had so far from a dealer, so all may yet be well.
