Getting bored with my MX-5 NB 1800cc. Two options:

1. Sell it, save up, buy something quicker (ie: S2000, Focus RS, Clio RS etc...)

2. Spend a wad of cash on it, supercharge it, up the brakes and suspension, make it a bit special?

Don't know what to do... anyone gone all out and blown a load of money on their motors to make it faster? Is it worth it or am I wasting my time?

Cheers

It's never worth it - £2k of bits will make the car worth £500 more. But if you love it, it's probably "worth" it.

That's pretty much what I would say.

You're always better off moving up to something faster in the first place. Chimeras aren't especially expensive these days and Boxsters are really cheap, both have issues.

Alternatively the Americans have been stuffing V8s into MX5s for years, there's even a Jaguar V12 equipped example.

If you love the car and just want a bit more power, supercharge it.

Yep, it makes no financial sense, but who cares, rarely does anything involving cars make financial sense. This is not Money Supermarket!

At the end of the day you'll get bored of the Clio, Focus RS, etc after you've got used to the performance anyway, then you'll end up modifying them, and I imagine they are more expensive to tune than an MX5!

Could be fun particularly if you like mx5s. loads about done. But I'd sell the one you have for one already done...

See what you can afford.

The girly one?

Sell it and buy the proper MX5, then boost that. Ya pansy.

Sell it and buy a proper one. It will cost alot more than £2k to modify an MX5 properly.

A change in personal circumstances meens that mine will be up for sale shortly http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

Can I add my 2p

I've done the upgrade to a different car, ok I never bought smart (I.e. found a steal sold for what I bought for it) but tbh I always look back after 12 months and wonder why I moved even with my Z4MC I think to myself wasn't I just happy with my Elise which cost substantially less to run....
