I know it's been asked a million times and there are as many answers but here we go (oh and PH search is hopeless...)

Car is a 4.0 Chim with 85k ish, so not a low miler or recent rebuild. The concensus from a bit of searching is 5-40 oil wise, is this correct?

Also is the filter a standard Landy type?

Have a look at this before you make your mind up.

I did mine recently and used Valvoline VR1 20W50. Used the Land Rover filter ERR 3340. Mine took nearly 7 litres of oil despite saying 5 in the book.

Agree on all points.

20w50 fully synthetic for me and took almost 7 Ltr. Gets expensive!

You don`t need fully synthetic Most engine builders like Valvoline VR1 20w50 ..

Last couple I've done I used Bosch oil filter and Mobil 1 15w50 motorsport, I read it was good oil and I can't fault it, doesn't use a drop between changes either
