Applied for a job today and got this response...
Hi XXXXX,
Thanks for your email.
I’m afraid my client won’t consider anyone who isn’t currently working. It’s a shame as experience wise you look good.
Should anything else come up I will definitely bear you in mind.
Best of luck in your search.
Thanks
Words fail me.

Hang on a mo. Whilst the response may seem a bit out of order, how do you know that the OP hasn't been working for say 25 years?! IF I had the choice of 2 people with the same experience, one of whom was currently in a position, the other has spent the last few years wnaking away in his bedroom, I know which one I'd go for!

How do you not know it was not due to illness, maybe looking after a family member or any other reason. It is a poor reason to not interview a candidate.singlecoil said:
As it appears to have been an agency, it's entirely possible that the 'job' and the 'client' don't exist. Agent isn't very interested in the OP either as he can't phish for placing a canidate in the OP's current job.
Now, who would possibly do something like that?
(Can't remember that guy's name who was the subject of a PH thread.)A friend of mine had it the opposite way around once. Applied for a job he was more than qualified for, went for an interview. Went great. Last question was a concern about him already being employed. He told them he was but looking to move elsewhere etc.
The interviewer then told him the position was only open to unemployed people and terminated the interview there and then...

I don't, but that's completely besides the point. Whether it was intentional or not, good natured or not, the OP hasn't been in work for wahtever period and (I assume) the other candidate(s) has/have.If the OP had been long-term ill, or looking after a relative, he's automatically disadvantaged by this fact when compared to someone who currently has a job. Fair or not, that's life my friend.
The OP is not suffering from any disability or long term illness.
The OP has been gainfully employed for 25+ years until redundancy at his last place of work, owing to a major collapse in the company's client base and market.
As for the job, it was advertised as "Urgent" and is a senior managerial job for which one shouldn't be surprised about a 3 month notice period.
I'm inclined to agree it's an agency fishing. But, well, ....
