I do not like any of the current electric cars! To costly, ugly, poor batteries (the reason they are costly) or very impractical. Hybrids a good idea let down by the batteries! Also ugly mostly. Clearly there is a gap for the kit car industry. Performance! Both of these could be used to create a different style of performance car.

Now this US Planes build hybrid shows they believe there are people who want something different ...

This is the XR3 Hybrid It claims 125 mpg on diesel power, 225 mpg equivalent when diesel and electric power are used in series.

Now I would this work in the UK? I like the looks, but hope our kit car industry could do better. It needs too? Yes needs too. Have you seen the cost of petrol! Wait till it pass £5.00 a liter and kit cars sales will end

Ultra MPG car are not new, just new to Kit Cars. These are small engine cars that use aerodynamics to get a good top speed. I feel these should aim for 100mpg to 200mpg with a top speed of around 100mph. Good handling and look good...

Here is very aerodynamic car called the Trayane II, it is based on a 2CV. It look very nice to me, can reach 100MPH...

Mainstream car have gone down the road of down force mean CD have not really improved in recent years. To get the MPG you will need to move towards designs the have a lower CD. The Trayane II is clearly a Costin inspired car, the cabin air inlet give this away. Costin design try to slip through the air and I believe this is the way these Ultra MPG cars should go.

The most efficient general shape on usable modern cars is the high back 'Kamm tail' like the original CRX (good) and, well there's no nice way of putting this, the Prius and other hybrids like the Insight and CRZ. OK so I'm being mean on the CRZ, that looks alright. There must be a way of making that general shape look good! hehe

Both the XR3 Hybrid and Trayane II use a 'Kamm tail'. A high one on the XR3 and looks very good. Having just seen the Honda yes it's not that bad look. I would have one.
