Similar - but smaller (from front pulley to back of alternator)
I can't fit alternator in the standard position (there is a now a dry sump pump there).
Have fitted a engine crank pulley which extends alternator belt travel further forward (creating more space for alternator in its new position).
Naturally there is less space in my engine bay than the usual applications for the engine (meaning there is only one position I can now fit alternator).
Have put a smaller washer between my charade alternator and alternator pulley (to try to bring is more into line).
I bought the charade alternator, and had expected size to fit, it is close but not quite aligned and will need need some adjustment to (maybe) allow it to fit.
Looking for standard alternator alternatives.
Obviously going to need to fabricate a bracket (not matter what alternator I choose)

From what I understand they are generally different from car alternators. (please correct me if I am wrong)
Car alternators use a variable magnets, to charge when needed.
Bike alternators use permanent magnets, and charge constantly - to avoid overcharging battery there is a separate regulator (together am told they are lighter than my charade alternator)
Output is much lower, I have seen one with 27amp, need to work out if it is sufficient to support my car.
(usual accessories, lights, high pressure fuel pump, ecu, plus an electric water pump.
I have a 100mm crank pulley, and a 50mm alternator 2 to 1 ratio

Have you got space in front of the engine to install a reversed drive alternator? Its a normal alternator but with the rear of the alternator pointing away from the engine. I believe that alternators will work in either direction of rotation so flipping one through 180 degrees with some suitable supports from the front of the engine would work well.

Brew - thanks for your suggestion, but looking at the alternator, sadly it looks the same size as my charade.
Tony427 - you are right, that would work (have seen it done)
Want to avoid this route if I can. To my eye, does not look good.
(however may have to take a another look at this if I can't get a better solution)

still pursuing rhinochopig's suggestion of a bike alternator.
