Remap accidently deleted?!?!?!?

Hi All,

We purchased a 2008 c200 cdi Elegance auto about 4 weeks ago and have covered approx 600 miles!

This is a W204 model with (136bhp). One thing I noticed was how quick it was. We had a previous c200cdi w203 and new model went like stink compared to the old one.

It was much quicker (mini road test) than my brothers Audi A4 143bhp 2009.

I assumed our car was re-mapped (but no history to back this up) and there is no way of contacting the previous owner.

Anyway.....we took the car to a local garage for parking sensors to be fitted and the car now feels slower and aprehensive to pick up from stand still. Before it was just so urgent!

So could a remap have been accidently deleted ? It really did feel like a 180bhp diesel and was pretty swift. Not something to hear in the same sentence as c200cdi !!

Anyway of checking if it used to be mapped and not now?

Possibly, did they do any recalls or updates while it was in?

The other possibility (not sure about that car in particular) is they've had the battery off and it'll take some time to 'relearn' your driving style - my 7 series was a git for that.

This does not explaing the lack of urgency.

Before....... the car, from standstill, was quick with no pause.

Now.....there is a slight pause when you hit the gas before it takes off and now surge of torque.

Certainly the case with some Mercs. There's only one way to be sure - boot it everywhere. Not sure what the rolleyes are for...

edit - I seem to remember there's a means of resetting the throttle on them too. Perhaps that's been done inadvertently?

Only a main dealer would re-write the ECU software and over-write a remap.

Eh, this is not true.

The independent may have connected autologic. For him to perform a test on the parking sensors it may have forced him to do an update. The update could have cleared the remap easily.

Does the independent use either Autologic or STAR?

Autologic probably could do it, but I'm pretty sure it'd appear on the bill and you'd be told about it.

There definitely is on say, E38 BMW's. You reset the gearbox on it, and it would drive in 'factory' mode, ready for a new driver to start imparting their driving style on it, which it could then 'learn'. All very clever. It was something like holding the throttle down on the kickdown switch for 5 seconds with the key in position one. Or something.

Throttle resets were done on petrol cars with electronic throttles. They would occur usually if you left the key on/engine off for a few seconds and it would quickly recalibrate itself.
Diesels won't be doing the same though

You do realise that adding the parking sensors will have added some weight don't you? Extra weight will always affect performance and acceleration.

Got it sorted...well almost !

I did the auto gearbox reset and it is much better. I cant be sure it is the same as before but it does pick up from stand still better.

Unless it's wildly out there's little point as I assume there's not "before" reading so he'll have no idea if it was less/more than prior.
