Q Plate Caterhams

I have been looking at Caterhams but quite a few in my (meagre) budget are Q Plates.

Am I being daft in avoiding these? There is just something about a Q plate that puts me off. Maybe I'm being snobbish or over sensitive?

I cant say it would bother me on a cheaper Caterham, If nothing else mot"s are easier! I would look at the car and buy it for what it is, a lot of early cars will have changed from when first registered anyway.

Nowt wrong with Q plates. In fact I think they come with a certain amount of qudos.

I had a q plate and nothing to worry about. When I was looking at them I was put off, just because of the Q, but mine was factory build, but due to the mix of parts and the time of build DVLA must have put it on a Q. It hides the age of the car and made MOT simple.

Important thing is the history of the car, mine was bottom end of the market, £8k, live axle 1600 (vauxhall), I saw a few with questionable/missing history and background, the one i bought was long term ownership, limited use but maintained well, just in need of fresh fluids and belts.

I drive a Q Plate - and have for 16 years. They are a good way of geting into 7 driving without killing the bank - and they hold their value just as well as non Q Platers.

I've a Q plate, nothing to worry about, many Q plates came around in the 80' & 90's as a way to avoid the additional tax on new car's by using a number of "old" part's which were exchanged for reconditioned one's.

The only drawback i've found is that a Q plate will alway's be a Q Plate and can not have a personalised number plate.
