Focus ST alarm problems!

Hi chaps, hoping for a bit of help and advice.

Own an '08 Focus ST. Cars been fine, no issues at all. Then today the alarm starts going off, no reason. Went out to unlock it and the key fob isn't working, unlocked it with the little key in the fob, tried the push button & nothing. Seems the battery is dead.

First question is, how do I turn the alarm off once I've unlocked it with that little key? On my old MINI you put the key in the ignition and turned it. But with the ST there's just a button, which I pressed but with no luck. Only way I got it to stop was lock it up again and it stopped after a bit. Anything I'm missing?

Also any idea what could have caused the flat battery? Was fine all day yesterday and started this morning ok. Got home about 10am & the alarm was going off around 5pm?

Have you checked the manual. I'm sure there's something in there regarding unlocking the car with the actual key. In the models without keyless entry, you put the key in the ignition and turn it to cancel the alarm, but in your case I'm not sure. Is there not anything on the steering column where lesser models would have an ignition barrel?
