Buying a Car with a Private Plate Question
Discussion
I may be looking at a car with a private plate on, that the seller wants to retain but hasn't changed it yet. Apparently they intend to send off the V5C when sold, to do this.
I would have thought this should have been done beforehand, but is there any issue for me as a buyer here? Do I still keep the small green part of the V5? When do I change plates over?
Cheers

Once you've paid for the car, it and the registration that goes with it are yours.
Seller should arrange transfer before sale to avoid the risk that you'll hold "his number" to ransom or sell to the highest bidder
. If he starts messing around with transfers after he's sold the car to you, it will delay you becoming the registered keeper and you won't receive any communications about the vehicle until after all the paperwork shenanigans are done.

This is the way I did it, as advised by DVLA (it worked).
V317 + V5 - full slip + MOT
£105 cheque
V62 is not required
Send to local DVLA office and wait.
