Sorry to have to reveal, but I have strayed!
ever on the look-out for a new challenge, I came across a basket case Spartan.
First registered in 1975 with triumph running gear and a 1600 xflow - so a new rebuild is under way (it was so cheap that her who must be obeyed does not demand I sell the Jago!!!!!) so I shall remain one of the elite for some time yet!
Any of you have any experience of the early spartans? any info would be most welcome

Good luck mate- lots of bodywork panels to vibrate loose and lightweight front suspension. At least replacement parts are available at rock bottom prices at the shows. Saw some trunnions at £5 each at Newark. I'd say- check the chassis out as you would with any Triumph based car. I knew someone who had a Vitesse engined one which went well. He wasn't a whizz with the spanners so never serviced it, just called the AA when it stopped !!! At least yours has got "God's own engine".
Cheers

I have strayed too...
Just bought an old Escort Mk4 cabrio- starship mileage, good hood and sparkling interior. 1.6 CVH with carb giving 38mpg. Red hot heater when you want it and zooms up the motorways feeling like new. Hood takes about 15 seconds to drop- it's heavenly !!!
B*gger all ground clearance though so the jeep is safe.
Cheers

Have to say I didn't think about that until I looked at the owners club website. Just saw it as a cheap convertible with an easy hood. Do you think a couple of Harley Davidson badges would help???

Drove a couple of RX7's a number of years ago when I worked briefly for a Mazda dealer.
Nice motors and like you say they can move.
Always toyed with getting a good engine and gearbox out of one and putting it in something else.

Wicked that's exactly what I was thinking.
Wish I had tried to find one when I was doing the Samuri up. Mind you at the time I was doing it up for my sister so was planning on making it suitable as a family car rather than a demon.
Mind you it does not do too bad with the 1.8 CVH. I got to keep it any way.

Jago with RX7 engine? Is there no end to the imagination ofthe Jago owner??

Is there any truth in the rumour that Evel Knievel is going to jump the Atlantic pond with a Jago strapped on the back of the space shuttle?
Ho Hum

Back down to the garage to tune up the RB211, should fit with only a few mods, having a struggle with the heat shielding. Should I wear a damart vest?

OK so now this thread is getting really silly- the nicest conversion I ever saw at a kit car show was a Rochdale Olympic fitted with a 4cam HondaV6 with an auto box on the back. It must be one of the most compact inline V6s- fitted to the Rover 827 as well???

As the limiting factor in a jeep (for easy conversion) is the width between the strut mounts, it must be a contender- alloy too so handling preserved !!!

Roll up- who's first???

Cheers
