one broken 997...

What's the best way to transport it to the OPC tomorrow? Anyone any trailer company experience? I'm in Fulham and need to go to OPC East London.

The full story:
I've been unable to (or rather advised not to) drive for 6 weeks due to a nasty metacarpal break on my right hand - great scar tho!
So, finally given the all clear by the surgeon on Firday I cleaned, checked tyre pressures, topped up screenwash, checked the levels and then tried to start the car yesterday. One flat battery, a phone call and a jump start later I went for a gentle drive. 30 mins later, all warm and outside the boundaries of London I have a little bit of a hoon and all seems well.

On the way home however there's a little rattle at idle. Not motion specific hence engine/pre gearbox issue... stop and have a look and it is intermittent, plenty of oil pressure and all readings seem normal.

The rattle seemed worse on acceleration and better on braking when it was there. Proceeded gently and get home.

Later in the evening I pop out again and suddenly and all manner of hell breaks loose. There's smoke at some traffic lights, I'm madly hoping it doesn't catch fire, and the noise is back accompanied by what sounds like belt squeal. Here are some pictures...

It looks to me like the belt has skipped across the pulley? It also has shed some of the belt rubber... The fluid seems quite a bit less coloured than oil too. Oh and there's a patch of it on the ground but only so much to suggest that it only leaks when running.

I've got it booked in to OPC tomorrow completely by chance and it's under full OPC warranty too.

Grrrr, 6 weeks off and it breaks... I suppose I should be happy that it didn't happen on the next trip to Scotland at the end of the month!

Any other advice/principled mocking/questions gratefully accepted.

Cheers,
sb

Most important thing for you is that it has full Porsche warranty. It's very annoying yes but it will not bankrupt you.

New waterpump time, an OPC is going to rip you a new one wink

Edit, well they would if it was not under warranty smile

The warranty usually includes Porsche Assist but if you opted out then call the OPC to see if they can offer to collect. Don't forget they get paid to do warranty jobs so if it looks like a big job it'd be worth their while collecting it FOC so that they get the job rather than another OPC.

Thanks for the support guys!

Spoken to Porsche Assist... I am very impressed, they seem amazingly helpful and all arranged for tomorrow morning. Really hopeful it's the water pump and not anything more sinister!
