Alternative to Chalet Chardon/Tignes for bargain ski week

As above, been here the past 3 times, its wonderful, passes, travel, digs, food, hire etc for less than £500ea.

I want to go Skiing with my Dad this year - just me and him, well prepared to rough it. Hostel type digs would be fine. French resort most likely so that we can fly/bus it cheaply. High up preferably, reasonable intermediate ski area.

Any suggestions?
