corner weighting
Discussion
Yesterday i spent the day with Dave at Jetstream working on the setup of my car , mainly as i have just fitted the new spec Protech shocks and the corner weights needed checking.
i have noticed this year that the drivers side front wheel has a tendancy to lock first and on the scales it was the lightest wheel with 239 kg on it , first weight revealed :
FL 261.5 KG FR 239 KG
RL 347 KG RR 398 KG
We knew from last years setup thet the heavist wheel is the rear right so over the winter i moved my battery over to behind the passenger seat , this has improved things a bit but i guess removing the aircon would have a bigger effect .
car weighed 1245.5 kg with a full tank of fuel and me in it , take of 90kg for me and you are left with 1155.5 kg , not a bad weight when you consider all the extra cooler, ect .
front axle 500.5kg
rear axle 745 kg
equaling a 40.184% splt to 59.815% to the rear .
after a hours of tweaking the springs i ended up with :
FL 248.5 KG FR 250 KG
RL 359 KG RR 385 KG
Still a bit heavier on the rear right but defo better on the front axle , hoprfully i can tell the difference on the brakes .
Thanks to Dave at Jetstream for all his hard work .

Hi Craig car is setup for driver only , yes adding a passenger changes things but i generaly find i go quickest on track when im on my own and in the event i do any competetive events i want it to be the best it can with just me in it . i,m always supprised how much of a difference i can feel when i have a passenger in the car .

My car was weighed recently and was 1120kg, that's with 1/2 tank and without me in it.
is your car stripped out then Kevin? That is an impressive weight.
I was looking into where you can strip weight off these cars, for being competitive, I remember seeing Paul's m400 cup car when he first got it, that thing was stripped completely, but say we want to remove weight whilst still keeping it as a nice comfortable road car.
Air con, I really don't see the need for this in the uk anyway, lowering the window is ample cooling, or just fans on cold with windows up,20kg
Passenger seat, not required for competitive events, stereo, door cards, I managed to strip 15kg off the interior without ripping up carpet etc..
There is really not a lot you can strip off these cars, so i suppose having lightweight alloys and tyres will make a big difference.

Getting rid of the 30kg of unusable fuel is also a good one...makes fuel delivery more secure and reliable whilst removing dead weight at the same time, totally undervalued mod imo.
Its the difference between starting a race when you know you will use 20litres, with either 55 litres in the tank or 25 litres in the tank, as you can not corner hard with less than 1/4 tank on the standard tank and tahts 35 litres "minimum".! or on endurance it means using 55 litres before refuelling, rather than having to refuel every 25 litres. Fuel for thought..

balancing a car is an art and when mine was weighed i made sure everything was full , even the water meth tank !! 1155.5 includes both gearbox and engine coolers , water meth kit , m400 seats full 6 point harnesses , double skinned alloy bulkhead and airbox , std GT03 wheels 888's tyres , twin fuel pumps , taller wing pylons and all the carbon bits means mine will be one of the heavist Nobles in the country , to loose weight i could get rid of the aircon , radio and buy Speedline wheels but its still a road car and as such i want my aircon , will probably get some speed lines on the next group buy if it happens !!
been out in the car and it fells more stable on the road , will know more after the track day on wednesday !!
and as for going running with Dawn
do you think i'm mad

my car has a fully usable 60litre tank, thats a better mod IMHO as I now have the option just to put less fuel in lol... my car was 1110kgs with around 55litres of usable fuel! Its the difference between starting a race when you know you will use 20litres, with either 55 litres in the tank or 25 litres in the tank, as you can not corner hard with less than 1/4 tank on the standard tank and tahts 35 litres "minimum".! or on endurance it means using 55 litres before refuelling, rather than having to refuel every 25 litres. dont underestimate how heavy the original GT03 wheels that tuxman runs... there is over 10kgs to loose there if he went to the speedlines and kev runs carbon wheels which are probably 20kgs lighter.
If the carbon wheels were still available Id be seriously interested.
we all added a lot of weight with all the extra rads, pumps etc for the box etc.... I run 5 pumps now were's the stock car only has 1!!!
