Hi there, i have a tiger cat e1 and have a 2ltr pinto engine with single weber carb.
during a rip today it started to mis fire abit and when we arrived home i had abit of a poke around the engine bay and discovered a very loose pipe connecting to the carb with a totally knackered gromit the other end...? i have no idea what this is for, i have taken photos for any help,
the gromit has 'motorcraft 42592' written on it. i cant find this on google, the length of pipe is also quite perished so will change at the same time.

anyone know what this is and where i can buy a replacement?

i will upload more photos in a sec also showing the down pipe from the carb to the component in the background,
please help!

so the immediate above photos show the pipe end and the component it locates into which should be sealed with the gromit, when i touched it it just popped out, what is it?

cheers ,
Kev

Im not an expert, but that looks a lot like a crankcase breather. The hose routes to the carb so the engine effectively burns any fumes off.

Maybe, altho it may be a genuine only part. Will the hose not just push back in ? It looks like its only a push fit, and if it is a breather as I suspect, wont be under any pressure unless your rings are shot.

if the gromit was new then it would just pop back in, il go and see if the spares shop has one tomorow. would this explain the occasional misfire?

Yes crankcase breather.
Once it came off the carb was drawing too much air hence the misfire.

Either replace with original parts or Buton Power do a breather kit.

nice one steve, would this gromit likely be stored by a spares shop do you think?

I think you will struggle to get a new gromit (I did). I bought an aluminium fitting from burton ford that replaced the whole assembly.

Its was this one

but this also might be of interest:

Maybe it will fit.

Should be noted that the burtons pipe doesnt have the sprung valve in it - I dont know what affect this will have on your engine. Usual job is to route the breather to a catch tank and seal the carb pipe ( which you shouldnt do with the sprung valve)

The breather is a press fit from memory

cheers mate, so your aluminium assembly you bought from burton, how did you fit this? did you have to remove the press fit breather in the engine block and this new assembly replaced all this? sorry about all the questions but iv never done this before,
cheers mate
