After I visited the Revival yesterday, and seeing a Mk1 2.5 PI, my dad has decided he can't break his Triumph 2.5 pi Mk1 (auto) and will instead restore it! thumbup

I will do my best to get pictures of it up smile

I was once in Melbourne for work and saw a beautiful example parked on the road. I went up to have a look and a lady was sitting in the passenger seat around 25. I was a bit suprised and said "oh hi, cool car..." then she started screaming at me about something. She wasn't all there.

I have since drawn conclusions about PI owners. hehe

Lucas 'Petrol Injection' does have that effect on those of us who are compelled to maintain it.

Actually it's not that bad, once you understand it. Certainly easier to figure out than some modern systems I'm struggling to diagnose.

Love the 2.5 PI. Sister had a 2.0 with perhaps the worlds heaviest steering, a chap in our road has a 2.5 PI saloon, a 2.0 Estate, a rtoledo (his daughters) and a spitfire. Do you think he likes Triumph's.. I admire his families patience in allowing him to exercise his passion so vigourisly...

Mk1 2.5pi Estate is on my wish list. A Mk1 2.5pi auto (saloon presumably) must be a very rare car indeed these days. Good luck with itsmile

There were only a few hundred estates - can't be many left.

I went through a few Mk2 PIs - I used to carry two 1-gallon fuel cans in the boot, one filled with petrol and the other with water for pouring on the fuel pump when it overheated.

I've got a Mk2 2.5PI, currently with foot-wells full of waste water after the pipe that runs above my parking space burst weeping

Having only discovered this on the weekend I think I've got a really 'fun' evening ahead of me...

Does it not have those big plastic 'plugs' like a TR, to let the water out?

Yup a saloon! It's apparently the only one left in the UK from its year (on how many left). Wether that's accurate or not, there clearly isn't too many around smile

Thanks for all the comments biggrin

Excellent. Mk1 PI's are just too rare to break.

I assume it was that lovely white Mk PI you saw in the Goodwood car park?

None of the above.

I was just admiring it there too biggrin

Have fond memories of PI's from back in the 70's.

Yep - but that's just cleared the standing water. Spent last night hosing-down the easily removable front footwell carpets - followed by the footwells and fixed-by-the-seats rear carpets in-situ frown At least I can now face getting close-enough to them to unbolt things and take them out to hose everything.

First off it's going to be "Vehicles are parked at own risk".
Second I'm not one for the US 'someone must be to blame' culture. st (or thankfully more correctly waste water) happens.

At least I now know my floor pans a good and solid, as the water didn't leak out. Just a shame I now also know that the screen vent seal leaks under torrential downpour conditions frown

Had a 2.5PI estate auto some years back now, didnt realise how rare they were then.....
Lucas fuel injection was a pain at times but a trick with feeler gauges and a shaped section of copper sheet the right thickness worked a treat, ran like a dream after that.
But then I decided if they can drop a rover V8 in a Stag what about the PI.
Turns out they were the same front ends and the conversion was a breeze.
Had to cut a hole in the bonnet for the carbs but a small L88 scoop ! soon covered those.
gearbox was the same so just had to change the input shaft, new rad and a Kenlow fan took care of the cooling and clearance issues.

what was I thinking !!!!!!!!

There was a specialist in England years ago who fitted Daimler 2.5 V8s into these cars. Maybe worth googling for anyone interested. Vaguely remember reading a magazine article. I think the specialist also ran a Daimler V8 powered drag-racing car (not a Triumph!). Maybe early 1980s.

Think there might be a couple of factory-built prototype Stag 3-litre V8 powered cars around too.

Russ Carpenter? He was well into the Daimler V8 lump.
