Evening guys

A mate of mine has just bought a 1M for a plaything. He reckons this it would destroy my only slightly tweaked M5 in a drag race and certainly around any circuit of choice, even before he gets it chipped.

I know these are very rapid cars and my heavy old V8 is ten years old.

Would he "destroy" me? I think so on a track but in a straight line? Not too sure on that.

Fairly moot anyway as we both live here in Jersey with it's 40 mph speed limit...

Cheers

Ben

How did you know that he's a scrawny bugger whereas I'm a very solid chap?

Oh, I see what you meant...

Fair point though

Destroy is a bit hash but I would expect it to walk away quite comfortably. I know the 1M can just about out run a E90 M3 in a straight line, and the M3 is quicker in the top end than the M5.
This linked with the M3 locking diff and the lighter weight one would assume the e39 will struggle.

Please post some videos when you two do decide to battle it out.... it will be good viewing

As standard I doubt it would 'destroy' you in a straight line but I think it would pull away until silly speeds when the M5 claws back. Mapped would be slightly different obviously, mapped 1Ms put out over 400bhp and loads of torque. As for corners I think the 1M would handle better but there wouldn't be a lot in it.

Ah well. I'd rather your V8 loveliness even if it's 10 years old smile

I have an E39 M5.. 1M is faster from the get go but after ~100 mph M5 is an M5, so you can assume that on a 1/4 mile the 1M would be a little bit ahead but on a 1 mile M5 would take over and be few cars ahead

not bad for a 10yo 4door saloon which is 7 times cheaper than brand new 1M smile

Really? I thought the 1M was slightly faster than a Z4M, whereas the Z4M would get murdered by an E90 M3

If the M1 driver got a great start he'd pull away very slowly, but once rolling the acceleration will be the same, the performance is too similar for either car pull a meaningful difference in a straight line at least.
On Track, he'd would destroy you, unless your more familiar with the track or a better driver

When the "race" is over park up beside the 1M and blip the throttle a couple of times.

1M and M1 are not interchangeable.

According to my google-fu, the following stats apply:

0-60 0-100 0-100* 0-200*
1M 4.7 9.8 4.5 15.2
M5 4.9 10.9 5.1 16.9

  • km/h
Hmm - close, but not close enough. But mine would most likely sound far better, particularly given the race pipes. : )

Does the M1/1M smile really do 0-100 in 9.8 seconds?

I'd be impressed!

Driven both at length.

Would say the 1M is marginally quicker to 100, but thereafter it probably makes no difference.

Whatever, the M5 is a more satisfying car to drive. 1M left me cold.

11.3 according to Autocar.

9.8 would be showing an E60 M5 a clean pair of heels!

I was at Santa Pod this weekend, and the 1M's were stuffing most things! E92 M3's, E39 M5's, E46 M3's, depressingly so were the 335i's, and the 135i's too! Happily an F10 M5 stormed the strip, and terminated at 118mph! He then promptly got kicked off the track for not having a crash helmet!

why would you need crash helmet for drag racing..especially in a stock car?
