I have bought an s280 with the 2.9 engine 1989 but someone has removed the imobiliser from under the engine any ideas where to get one or how to overide it, I do not want to throw to much money at the car as I was scammed by the previous owner, I should not buy of ebay after 10 ciders

Brave man, I saw that S on e-bay, sounded a bit suspect, "left it with a garage to sell on his behalf and they nicked the immobiliser"
Good luck though, the spaghetti of wiring is a nightmare to understand.
Bears no relation to Haynes manual for the Granada, I had the vain hope of helping me, solved my problems by luck rather than judgement.
I am sure someone will be along in a moment that has more knowledge on this though.

LOL!! Must be catching... just had my new one in for a service and low and behold my immobiliser is missing... all the wiring is there, the fob the connectors ect.. they've simply snipped it and removed it????

Anyway in response, i have a local car electrician, hes popping round next week to put a new one in and if it doesnt work then he quoted £140 for a new system fitted so you should be ok... if your in Hampshire i'll send you his number...

I think the PO posted on here last month or so asking for the same advice before deciding to sell it as it was... There are ways around it if you're reasonably competant with car wiring after all the starting/running circuits are very straightforward (especially on older cars).

I think I suggested buying a "remote starter and alarm" last time it was asked as I have bought and fitted a few over the years and they bypass most of the existing vehicle wiring and are self contained (and at £30 on eBay they're cheap too).

I reckon a few hours with that and a wiring diagram would get you where you need to be - but TBH any reasonable vehicle electrical specialist would get you up an running fairly swiftly without the remote starter kit.

Were all S's fitted with imobilisers from new.? My 1989 S2 doesn't appear to have one. (mind you I probably wouldn't recognise one if I saw it.)

Hi thanks all for your advice the wiring is still all intact just that the immobiliser has been removed, talked to the person it was previously bought from and he said that the car was all working fine, it was only when I had the car delivered that I found out that the car had been outside for 6 months (not covered) and the inside was very wet/mouldy, it is for sale on ebay at the moment but I have been much more honest about the condition, I need to sell as at the moment my Tuscan is sat on the drive and unfortunately like all TVR it leaks (a bit)
